Coursera! ( www.coursera.org )

They've got a superb range of courses.

Udacity might be another.

It isn't on-line (well bits are) and it does cost a tenner to join up but if you live in the UK and you are 'getting on a bit' as I am..(I suppose!)..then the University of the Third Age is brilliant. I have joined a French class! And I am doing a couple more too I think.

I'm not sure if it has already been covered by some of the other links, but I highly recommend this 12 lecture series. You can't really complain about free Harvard lectures. After watching them, I've since bought a couple of books by Sandel. He also features (briefly) in some of my philosophy material.

Harvard University's Justice with Michael Sandel

A great introduction to some of the key concepts of moral philosophy (concentrating on justice).

Maybe we should hunt down all other threads like this, merge them and sticky the result in the Seminar?
"The internet is made of people. People matter. This includes you. Stop trying to sell everything about yourself to everyone. Don’t just hammer away and repeat and talk at people—talk TO people. It’s organic. Make stuff for the internet that matters to you, even if it seems stupid. Do it because it’s good and feels important. Put up more cat pictures. Make more songs. Show your doodles. Give things away and take things that are free." - Maureen J

+1
I think that language has a lot to do with interfering in our relationship to direct experience. A simple thing like metaphor will allows you to go to a place and say 'this is like that'. Well, this isn't like that. This is like this.

Found another one: http://education-portal.com

They're popping up all over the place.

And according to this article some of these sites are now doing proper qualifications too. I feel sorry for those poor kids that have been duped into paying nine grand a year tuition fees at a time when the cost of education is plummeting.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

At the risk of derailing this thread (Mods feel free to move!).........

.....has anyone started setting up a FREE University (or simply free degrees?). By that I mean something where the degree would not only be recognised as valid internationally but also genuinely be worthwhile / the equivalent of anything at a Bricks and Morter University.

My thinking is that for some subjects the content / lectures done online would be cheap enough and that their would be people willing to contribute their time for free to create the content (The Univeristy of Wiki!) or simply for some advertising of own work / business).........the tricky (and expensive?) part comes when the exams are needed........but I see no reason why the cost of that could not be covered by Charitable Foundations / Business (even if the Student has to pay for self to attend somewhere physical - for some that a bus, for others a jumbo jet).

I am leaving aside that for some (many? / most?) that the Interent / distance learning model would not work - but clearly it does for enough with the Open University, however that is not without some cost.

Any thoughts?

EdX seems to be heading in that direction.
