Fujifilm uses a lot of Nikon components, yes, but they're different companies and Fuji did revolutionize the CCD sensor in their S2~S5 series. I don't think it's quite accurate to say that Nikon makes Fuji cameras. Anyway, even if they did, that would be a good thing, because Fujis are cheaper.Gawdzilla wrote:You know Nikon makes the Fujifilm cameras, right?

Fuji doesn't make a Coolpix, but if you're thinking of the Finepix series, yes. What about the price tags?Gawdzilla wrote:Put a Nikon Coolpix down next to a Fujifilm Coolpix with the brandname covered.FBM wrote:Fujifilm uses a lot of Nikon components, yes, but they're different companies and Fuji did revolutionize the CCD sensor in their S2~S5 series. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I gave my Finepix to Bella, her antique was just plain lame. The Finepix was clue enough for her to buy a good camera.FBM wrote:Fuji doesn't make a Coolpix, but if you're thinking of the Finepix series, yes. Re: Which camera do I want?
There are a lot of Finepix and Coolpix models with a range of specifications. Anyway, I think Fuji shaves a bit off the price tag...

Re: Which camera do I want?
I don't remember the model I had, but I did have a chance to put them side-by-side on a table once, with the owner of the Coolpix giving his input. We couldn't see a difference between the two cameras, down to the stickers on the inside of the battery tubes.FBM wrote:There are a lot of Finepix and Coolpix models with a range of specifications. Re: Which camera do I want?
Yeah, Fuji sometimes uses Nikon frames, but they're not identical inside, and there's always some difference in the specs. And the price. A real comparison would be to list the specs and the prices together, along with some professional reviews of their actual performance. In my experience so far, Fuji tends to give same or similar specs for lower price, and that's because of Nikon's brand recognition. Which is advertising/public relations/propaganda. Anyway, I'd go with professional reviews wrt performance, user-friendliness and price if I were camera-shopping. I think most of us Ratz shutterbugs still rank as amateurs, except for Brett.

Yeah, I've been hitting the review sites heavily. And I don't have to worry about paying the bills with the cam, just getting two wolves fucking.FBM wrote:Yeah, Fuji sometimes uses Nikon frames, but they're not identical inside, and there's always some difference in the specs. What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Re: Which camera do I want?
Here's a fairly comprehensive comparison of the Nikon D3100 with the Canon EOS 1100D. Having gone through the list feature by feature, I'd go for the Nikon. Apart from making top quality glass (Nikkor), Nikon also has a top reputation for building very robust bodies. My personal preference is also influenced by the fact that I already have three Nikkor lenses (one of them being a 500mm mirror reflex) and regardless of age all Nikkor lenses fit on all Nikon bodies. Canon keeps changing design of its mounts, so you need to be very careful which lens you buy. I'd obviously won't get AF with mine, but hey, I've focused manually for decades, so...Gawdzilla wrote:Sound philosophy. A collection of lens will migrate easily to a new body. And having a specialized lens, like a super long telephoto, can be a real advantage at times. It's a lot easier to get candid shots if the subject don't know they're been photographed. (Of course I would only do this in public setting. I would never point a telephoto at an apartment building or such. Seriously. No kidding. I shit you not.)Tero wrote:2 parts is good. You can upgrade body or eBay it and keep lenses.

That looks pretty damn good for what you want to use it for, 'zilla.

And when I'll get it I don't know, but I'm betting it will be cheaper by then.
