Ribose

Post by Tero » Wed Jun 19, 2013 1:30 am

Origin of ribose explained. Talk origins has the jpg
Image

The five membered heterocycle reacts with the three carbon aldehyde. The original thinking is crossed out., adenine plus ribose.
Paper was in
Szostak JW (2009) Systems chemistry on early Earth. Nature 459: 171-172

I've lost the talk origins page but Szostak should locate it.

Sorry. Cytosine plus ribose, the way we would put the parts together in the lab. It's neat that the phosphate is part of the mechanism of opening the tricyclic intermediate to cytidine.

We had to evolve ribonucleotide reductase first. It takes the ribose nucleotides and plucks off the 2-OH. See Wiki for the enzyme. Or google JoAnne Stubbe.

I'm one handshake away from Obama via her. I have one or two papers with her.
