Said Peter...what you're requesting just isn't my bag
Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late

Person afraid to ask fundies what they think genes are:
I'm not brave enough to ask, Wolfpup. You should have heard some of my relatives swoop down on "acid" in DNA. It started with, "We're not made of acid!" Then it really went downhill.

Professor (Christine) argues with fundamentalist
http://www.amazon.com/forum/evolution/r ... 0I7D0ISVJ9
The creationist debate:

1. Present an absurd, cartoonish version of evolution.

2. Show that this absurd, cartoonish nonsense you just made up is wrong.

3. Voila --- you've just disproved 150++ years of scientific research.

Christine (professor) explaining to fundies
"Yes, the ancestors of all placental mammals, including whales, were indeed shrew-like."

What is there about this sentence that you fail to understand? Do you think that mitochondrial Eve was the same person who gave birth to you? If your great great grandfather isn't your father, is this some failure of geneology? Is this just your usual failure of reading comprehension or are you just being a troll?

But, for the sake of others reading, I'll try a tad of enlightenment. First, I'll rephrase that sentence in a way that a 5 year-old could understand. The common ancestor of all placental mammals was shrew-like. However, not every mammal arose directly and individually from this first mammal. My ancestors were Polish. This does not mean that I was born in Poland, because there were several generations between my forebears and myself.

"Yes, rats."

Even if I meant what you insist that I mean, shrews are not rats. They are not even rodents. They are a completely different mammalian order, and not closely related. But I know ---- "looks like a rat to me" surpasses all of human knowledge from Aristotle on down.

What happen to your precious deer ungulates?"

Deer-like ungulates (i.e., mammals like the Eocene Indohyus) are in fact *within* placental mammals. They, like whales, and every other mammal that we know of today or in the Cenozoic (the past 65 million years), including rats and real shrews, post-date the earliest known placental, Juramaia (which was indeed shrew-like), by a minimum of 100 million years.

'You made your way from the worm to man, yet much within you is still worm.'

I find that one helps to kick things off right when you're dealing with a fundy or a Calvinist. The Calvinist has to accede a grain of truth in the statement if he's any honesty left, so then you can ultimately tug and tow the conversation to the point where someone is speculating why God chose that particular setup vs Pikachu World, and Calvinist has to admit those answers are above his pay grade and start talking about Kierkegaard.

I am a born-again, evangelical, Bible-believing Christ-follower and I sincerely apologize to everyone for the moronic radio host who continually insulted and ignored Dr. Krauss while constantly talking over his words.
I accept the fact that many of my Christian brethren are total idiots when it comes to science and how science works. But far too many of the loudest ones are arrogant enough to blather foolishness when they should shut up and learn from somebody who knows what they are talking about. You don't have to believe in God to shut up and learn some science from Dr. Krauss .

Yes, I agree that Dr. Krauss often turns into a moronic babbler when talking about philosophy, theology, and other fields in which he has no training. But the radio presenter illustrated why the Book of Proverbs says, "The fool hates instruction" and "hates knowledge".

Not all Christians are as stupid as the radio host. He can believe in God without acting like a moron. The Big Bang Theory was proposed by a Christian clergyman. He was NOT try to eliminate God. IN fact, he provided a scientific reason for many to say that a beginning to the universe implies a beginner, that is , a creator.

Now if some Christian dislikes the Big Bang Theory, fine. Publish your paper debunking it, and you will probably get a Nobel Prize for it.
