Has your opinion about Richard Dawkins changed due to the recent RDF events?

No. He is not responsible of the management and decitions taken by his staff.

Not really. My opinion is based on just his contributions in science and atheism, not on his persona.

A little bit. He is still one of my favorite atheist leaders, but I feel somewhat let down.

Quite. It was unexpected and against what I thought he advocated for.

Yes. I feel insulted and mistreated and his erasing of scientific posts is like a nazi book burning.

Yes. I won't buy his books or support his causes from now on.

Poll about the impact of the purge

Post by Sisifo » Tue Feb 23, 2010 3:01 pm

I am very intrigued to see if the recent actions from RD staff have had a repercussion on the image held by his fan base... Elaborate if you can...

I don't find him 'likeable' but that's not what I need him for. I don't 'like' Maradonna... didn't stop him being an amazing footballer.

In my case yes it has lowered RD in my estimation. I don't go for the excuse that Josh is to blame and RD may not know what is going on, because when a fuck up this big happens the buck stops with the boss regardless of what underlings may have done without his say so. Its his responsibility to know what is going on.

I simply don't have enough information on RD's level of personal involvement in what happened. My opinion will remain unchanged until I get more info. :dono:

So long as he's willing to treat with such contempt the people who enable his life to be one long carnival of writing bestselling books, appearing on chat shows, jetsetting around the world to conferences, and other assorted junketry, then I will do my damnedest not to swell his coffers any more.

You are a petulant child for daring to remind him of the facts.

I must say I feel pretty upset about this. I hope I get to hook up again with the friends I made from rdnet.

Just feels so wrong. Within 4 hours of me getting the Admin post I'm denied access and everybody has gone.

Is this the rapture?

ADDITIONAL
when I say, Admin post I meant the post in the thread, not the Admin Job :hehe: tee hee

That's pretty shitty. Sorry you feel so bad - you guys were treated very badly indeed.

On a smaller scale of course the closure of 'off topic' sections of RD net led to the spinnoffs a year ago, one of which is Ratz.

My involvement at RD.net started with trying to find help against growing religious influence in Australia, especially in the public schools. I found strength through the conversations to become something of an activist for secularism and to hold my own in public against some stiff opposition. The forum has acted as a resource pool as well. To have it abruptly taken from me and to have over 2000 posts, about 500 of which I thought were pretty good, just tossed away is hurtful and vandalism.
The new forum, a pheonix indeed, is at http://www.rationalskepticism.org. Ex RDF guys, that is home for those that want it.

I went with Quite, I expect that will shift to A Little Bit as time passes. I don't see how Richard could have no hand in this, and he's an intelligent man who used the forum so he must have had some idea of the scale of the fallout... I don't know who's to blame but I feel like I've been abandoned :(

I'll bet there are many theists out there rejoicing right now, spouting crap about the shepherd abandoning his flock or atheists turning from their God or some bullshit along those lines.
Men! They're all beasts!
Yeah. But isn't it wonderful?
