Abortion USA

Post by Tero » Tue Jun 28, 2022 12:09 am

First they claim states will run abortion law.

Then:
The bottom line: There is no mystery about whether the House, under a GOP majority, will pass abortion restrictions. The question is how far they will go.

The broad consensus among Republicans is that the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which would require doctors to provide care to infants born after botched abortions, will be a top priority.

Leadership has already committed to be one of the first votes we'll take in the majority," said Banks.
Asked whether GOP leadership would go as far as a total ban, however, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) told Axios, "We're going to work with all of our members to celebrate and protect life."

Court decision
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dobbs_v._ ... ganization
does not place abortion under state jurisdiction in so many words. Merely takes it away from women and allows states rule. "Alito's draft called the Roe decision "egregiously wrong from the start", arguing that abortion is not listed in the Constitution as a protected right, and instead would allow states to decide on abortion restrictions or guarantees under the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution."

The practical outcome is that states now run it.

The commerce clause
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenth_Ame ... nstitution
may allow the feds to block sending abortion pills by mail of Amazon packages.

Women aren't getting their rights back.
Collins and Manchin are lying. I suspect Biden supports the reversal as well, or is at least sympathetic.

All your anger simply isn't scary enough, and you have a significant number of people in power who would welcome a collapse, who pray for it.

It really is hopeless though. Is anyone seeing the response they expected? The usual protests aren't enough. They never have been.

I don't know ...public opinion impacts voting and large majority of women and a good sized chunk of men oppose this and might make for a surprise come November....if ever there was a swing issue this is it. Given how tight some of the races are ...women could tip those close contests.
64% of US adults oppose overturning Roe v. Wade, poll sayshttps://www.npr.org › 2022/05/19 › abortion-polling-roe-...
19 May 2022 — Poll: Two-thirds say don't overturn Roe; the court leak is firing up Democratic voters · Nearly two in three Americans oppose overturning Roe v.

A surprise for who? Don't count on seeing any big changes, the system is designed to protect parties from serious consequences.

No, voting has never been enough.

An example of what is actually required would be the attorneys general who promised to protect access, and people willing to keep clinics open even after it becomes illegal. We will have to fight the law. It's always been this way.

I fought the law and the law won.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Yeah. And it probably suits the Democrats politically to feed the controversy and keep the issue alive and unresolved - it drives footfall, and donations.

I hope we do see significant changes. But I'm sure we won't.

--//--
When the stock market crashed in 1929, Hoover (now President) called it a “depression.” And with the coming of the Great Depression, came calls from desperate bankers seeking to collect on those war-era farm loans. The local newspaper was filled with bankruptcy notices and advertisements for farm foreclosure sales, as banks seized property and equipment. Many Iowa farmers, however, were not willing to hand their inheritance over to bankers; farmers in Logan, Storm Lake and elsewhere organized mobs to chase off bankers and lawyers. In Le Mars, five hundred farmers stormed the county courthouse and threatened to hang a judge for approving farm foreclosures.
