Please stay away from Ratskep...for a while.

Post by Durro » Wed Sep 26, 2012 7:38 am

Hi Ratz,

I mean this in the nicest possible way, but it would be best if you didn't try to visit Ratskep in the short term. It appears that we've been hacked, and members who visit may be subject to attack by malicious software. My own computer had an intrusion attempt which was thwarted by my anti-viral software. The forum is glitchy and shows multiple software errors.

LIFE, the forum admin is asleep at the moment, as he's a night owl and late riser in Germany, so it probably won't be resolved for a few more hours yet.

The attack appears to have originated in The Netherlands and we have an IP address to track down.

I'll come back and post when it's safe to visit Ratskep once again.

:td:

Durro

My anti-viral software prevented a couple of attacks/intrusions, but from speaking to several other members, some weren't so fortunate.

Cheers.

thanks Durro, been getting JavaScript errors this morning, so I've was checking to see if anyone else had the same issues.

If you think the problem may have originated in Holland (although presumably that may well be spoofed) it's probably Transgender Jihadists from A+. :lay:

Thanks for the heads up Durro!

Sorry to hear about that. RatSkeps are going to be crashing on the sofa tonight?
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

We had this happen here a couple of years ago, twice in a few weeks. I was never 100% sure but after spending a long time looking into it, my best educated guess was that it originated in an FTP client virus, specifically FileZilla. Particularly because it affected two sites I ran on different hosts, plus a site my work colleague ran. We both used FileZilla and were both on the same company network. Unfortunately, I never found the virus, but then anti-virus vendors don't tend to concentrate on viruses like that because few users are likely to encounter them.

Well, that's the reason for some of you :hehe:
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.
