Where's the fucking elevator?
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

The Net is best considered analogous to communication with disincarnate intelligences. As any neophyte would tell you. Do not invoke that which you have no facility to banish.

I'm on my phone so I can't look it up at the moment but I believe RDF got in some trouble because that's not their font and it wasn't licensed properly. Someone opened photoshop, typed a big a in a standard font and coloured it red...

From the other thread (merge?):
rachelbean wrote:Me being an atheist means I don't have a belief in god(s). End of. You can't make me part of your movement or community because of something I don't believe. I don't want a credo or a platform and I don't want any priests. I choose who my community is (shockingly, not all atheists) and what I believe or support, and those things can change if I feel like it. Social justice and human rights are things I support but they have fuck all to do with atheism. For fucks sake it's amazing how people pat themselves on the back for "breaking free from the chains of religion" just so they can make shinier versions :fp:

That's o.k. -- they must be allowed to use it, since they are using it. Most fonts are not owned by anyone. If you take a font and add a color to it, and affix it as a brand, it becomes a trademark. I mean, Owens Corning won trademark protection for the color pink in their fibreglass insulation.

Yep -- found it. The red A is a registered trademark of the Richard Dawkins Foundation: http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f= ... kgdch8.3.1 and http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f= ... kgdch8.3.2

And, this one should please Surly Amy: http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f= ... kgdch8.3.3 -- the foundation registered the mark for use on earrings, jewelry, pins, etc.....

So, maybe somebody ought to notify the Atheist Plus movement that they may be infringing a registered trademark.

Religion + Political Expediency vs Atheism + Political Expediency. :bored:

I always thought an atheist was some who believes "there is no god"

Whereas a non religious person who could argue they had not consider that there either was or was not a god would be someone who "does not believe in a god"

You could argue believing there isn't a god (as though your lack of belief is as strong as someones belief there is a god). I'm not explaining this well. Religious people claim there is a god! Atheists say there is no god! Agnostics say there might be a god!
Surely the people who say they don't believe in a god are not argue there is or isn't one.

I'm confused!!

Someone who does not believe in gods is an atheist.

Agnosticism is about the ability to know. An agnostic is someone who thinks nothing is known or can be known about the existence or nature of deities, or anything beyond material phenomenon.
