That site is more devoted to the very narrow subject of criticizing/laughing at PZ Myers and the other FtB femtheists and Skepchicks. Not really an overreaching rational site, per se.

I only joined two days ago so am still finding my way round. This place has been defended, so anyone wants to join should feel very welcome. I just posted the Rationalia's Sexual Abuse Scandal OP of Exi5entialist. It is a new site so has plenty of potential about it. There is a fair bit of negativity on the current site wars but I just try to be as positive as I can. The Skepchicks are referred to as baboons but that is not my style. I shall however stay and contribute as positively as possible. Anyone from here will feel very welcome as I said, so have a gander if you so wish.

I joined though I no longer give a shit about ftbs, I like their attitude towards free speech (it's becoming increasing rare these days) which is the main reason I am a member here as well.

Point of order - - the commenters on PZ and others of the FC5 are baboons, due to their behavior of attacking in packs and flinging poo. The skepchicks aren't normally included in that. They might make it in there occasionally through proximity. I don't think we really have a name for them yet. Haven't seen a need, actually.

There is no sniggering. Snorting and giggling, perhaps, but definitely no sniggering. Except for larry. he sniggers. There is open mocking, though. The forum came from a thread started at ERV (one of the sciencebloggers) when she spoke out against Watson jumping on Stef McGraw (I hope I have her last name correct, it's been so long and I've slept since then). That's when I joined. The thread became a place for those who disagreed with PZ and his minions, as well as Watson and hers, and who were shut out of any discussion (as if there was any to be had beside "we're right, you're wrong, here's your porcupine to insert rectally"), especially those who were banned/blocked. When they started FftB and it got worse (with the addition of Ophelia and the rest who became the Fainting Couch 6 (now 5 for the time being)), things came around that a forum would be better. Since attempted discussion got us nowhere, most of us stick to keeping track of what they are doing and saying, especially pointing out hypocrisy or things we disagree with, and making snide comments.

There is some gossip, but there is some other discussions - male contraceptives just came up the other day - but most is still confined to the main honorary thread. There are some other stuff, but we're still young - less than a month or two at least.

We also don't want to censor anybody. We try to self censor/moderate, and do far it's been pretty good. We wanted a place where we were free to disagree, and yet still be adults. It's not quite what you have here, but you've been doing this a lot longer and have a closer relationship than we have there. So far. Who knows. Give it time.

It's not much of a discussion, and it's broken into comments on the main thread, but if it's an area of interest someone can start a new thread on it. I'm sure that people would comment (well, I hope so). I would start here for a bit of background. I have to be honest, I think you may be disappointed when I looked back on it, but we'd like more contributors. Any real information would be appreciated.
