I agree - there are loads of great, sharp folks in the OT section whose posts I love to read and make me laugh uproariously.
Yes, many of their staff members included, I might add.

Well, we busted and then set up this place and improved.

And it wouldn't surprise me to see RatSkep do the same.

I always feel, though, if I post any kind of a quip or anything not wholly serious or narrowly on-topic elsewhere that there's dead silence afterward and get the sense I'm being stared down at a bit scornfully. It's just a mood I sense... keep things siloed. I find it terribly off-putting.
My main reason for staying there, I'd really miss some of those people if I lost contact with them. I also lke to browse the serious threads but avoid commentin on them for fear of looking retarded or like you say, posting a quip then seeing the tumbleweed blow through...

Yeah. But isn't it wonderful?

What happened with Cali? Did he get a warning? Is he still a mod?
Is it likely that people who very much want to express their true feelings about a certain suppurating someone are being driven to the verge of madness?
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

no and yes from my last look over there to read up what was going on.
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

That's the nail on the head - I feel cursed dragging a tumbleweed behind me oftentimes over there. Many's the time I wanted to do a follow-up post after I'd either killed a thread or been ignored, saying, "COME ON, GUYS, lighten the hell up!!

"
But then, they don't have

or

there, so the sentiment would be somewhat lost.

Their problem is obvious and easily remedied with a quick pull

Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

@devogue:
I really, really was quite nice to Cali. What I wrote was what I observed. He wrote a few thousand words devoted to slagging off someone who I like. Even if I didn't know the person, I'd consider the post quite beyond the pale, but given what I know of Gallstones, it was so far out of line that it is staggering. Here's an excerpt:
Matters were made worse in that thread by yet more untimely interventions from Gallstones, who has increasingly adopted a posting style that is, quite frankly, a shameful and duplicitous display of petulant, infantile and neurotic whingeing that constitutes a suppurating smallpox pustule on the face of rationality, and is utterly beneath deserving of a point of view.
Not only is it a disgusting personal attack on a lovely person, it's also a terrible bit of writing. A bunch of fancy words strung together with commas doth not a good sentence make...
As they say in many a creative writing workshop, less is more.
