O.k. - open statement RDF mods and "others": it's an overly emotional reaction to what really is, in the grand scheme of things, a relatively small matter.

there were permanent educational and information threads that were built over time and WITH full approval of the mods and discussion with them as to best method and much discussion as to how to be effective with durable communication over time....

So? I'm not sure how much of that was removed. But, when I go to the website now, it looks like most of the threads are still up.

You're inll informed about forum communities like this as your remark clearly demonstrates....

The only forum "community" I ever participated in regularly was the RDF web forum.

Some portions are chat....others are not.

Regarding the forum, it was set up in categories. People created topics. Discussions and postings ensued. To one degree or another, that's what the site was. Some were very frivolous conversations and nonsense threads, others were serious discussions, and others collected information. Once again, so what? All you had to do was back the material up to your computer if it was important. Nobody assured users that whatever important "work" was being done would be there in perpetuity.

That you may have treated it as a chat room....or perhaps you never a member at all....is your problem.

How any of us "treated" the forum is our own "problem." I, for one, don't have a problem because I am able to move on quickly and easily from the "vicious and vindictive" locking of the forum.

I sent a note to Dawkins throwing in my two cents worth as to the kinds of things that were very nice about the forum, and how it operated - I listed the kinds of qualities that I hoped would remain in a revamped forum. Hopefully, he will do that. Others could do that. If there is content that you would like to have, but can't find on the currently locked forum, perhaps a professional and cordial request specifying what it is you're looking for might be honored.

Sure. To each his or her own. I'm merely suggesting that perhaps for one's own sanity one might attempt to view this matter with some degree of restraint and perspective. Rather than:
