You can also copy and paste directly into word or openoffice writer, including all images and formatted text.
A couple of us have run autoarchiving programs to save as much as we can. Mine has a lot of rickrolls in it, but seems to be largely complete, with the exception of tech support and off-topic.

I am currently underway to backup all publicly accessible content. (Have approx 40% at the moment). I will offer a free service to any poster to retrieve a collection of all the threads he has posted in. Internal links will still work.macdoc wrote:If you have threads you want to preserve ( I had a mere 10,000 posts and Climate news was 115 PAGES!!!!!![]()
)
You can go to print view and copy an entire page with images and ( hopefully ) links intact.
Not sure many have the same situation as the climate change crew but some of you might have some personal opuses ( opii? ) to retrieve.
Climate
ETA: Full backup should be complete by Thursday. Fixing of internal links and creation of index (to retrieve threads by posters) should be complete by Sunday.

I used WInHTTrack. Uncompressed, smaller than I expected. It was suggested to me, so I went with it. I was just investgating other means.

A book is a version of the world. If you do not like it, ignore it; or offer your own version in return.

Good idea.
Anybody recommend a good archiving program? The one I used is shite, and I want to get as much of it as I can before any other prolific users get deleted. I have a fair bit, but it's full of crap as well.

What's the problem? Most generic programs will have some problems because of the non-canonical urls used in phpbb.
I wrote my own program to download the contents from rd.net,specifically made for the forum software
Status: I got 50% now
I will share the data when it is done and after I have fixed the internal links (which will require a separate program which I will code on Saturday)

Cool. I am running another now anyway, and it seems to be working better.
