Well, yeah. The funny thing is, when these ladies first came out with Skepchick, they really didn't focus on feminism in the way they do now. Early on it was a lot of sex references, nudie calendars, "intelligence is sexy" type stuff -- sort of like, "we're the hip, young, "chicks" that can bring some youthful energy and a fun, free-spirited feeling to an otherwise old, nerdy guy dominated field."
When they first came on the scene, their whole idea was to party with the sciencey guys and be the hot chicks in skepticism/science. Surprise surprise if they didn't get the attention of the very men they were originally looking to titillate.
This whole rabid feminism thing really only started getting big in the last 18 months or so. Suddenly, the emphasis on sultry photos, eyes sidelong glanced, looking over glasses, went away. Not so much partying in revealing outfits and risque t-shirts. The outfits became frumpy, and general appearances became less traditionally attractive and more of a "feminist protest look."
So, they're stuck with the original, non-feminist, name, incorporating a traditionally derogatory term for women and implying red-lipstick, short skirt "chickies" , even though now they are hard-core feminists championing the plight of women in our horrid patriarchy...
