Hi, Cali!

Good to see you!

Oh, yes, I will try. Only, tbh, there's no fucking excuse for cutting people off mid-discussion (and depriving them of a decent way to find the discussion back) WITH-OUT any fucking warning whatsoever.

I had NOTHING to do with whatever offensive posts might have been made to Josh - if they have - and I still lost a shitload of posts that I had bookmarked. That's just not the way you deal with people who come to your forum to learn and to engange in intellectually honest discussions, AND who contribute to your foundation financially.

Pardon my french, and obviously my rant was not about you... just needed to vent.

S.

Silly number of people viewing my blog just now. I hope that's just all you guys and Facebook friends... otherwise you may get another wave stampeding in here! Also, ilovelucy's #timonenfail hashtag on twitter has actually brought some people to my site by searching for that tag on Google, so it's been noticed by someone! Maybe Josh? :hehe: :hehe:

Peter, I've just finished reading your blog. That really is excellent. Can somebody with Twitter please forward it to PZ Myers? I would, but I forgot my Twitter account info.

I'm still gathering intelligence on all of this, and frankly, it's going to take some time to decide how I am going to respond, but I seem to recall informing the older members of the Mod team that I tend to operate in "Captain Remius" mode on such occasions. For those unfamiliar with the reference, watch The Hunt for Red October - you'll all find it illuminating in this respect.

Superb.

It confirms everything we've suspected, and adds plenty of details to fill in the gaps. So the staff had the best interests of the forum at heart, and were ready to engage with the developers and work with them pro-actively. But the staff (and by extension the member base) did not get the same attitude back from the developers. Speaking myself as a developer of many years standing: This is absolutely shocking behaviour, abysmal. If I ever behaved like that towards my user base, I would be lynched. Obviously, Josh + Andrew did not feel that they had an obligation to the staff or the members. Simply atrocious. :nono:

That last quote from Richard Dawkins has made me more angry than anything Josh has done in the last 24 hours.
Richard Dawkins wrote:“It is a community, and that is a valuable part of it. Many of our forum threads have an atmosphere of friends going out for a drink and chatting. I think that is valuable, and I don’t think we should insist on sticking to serious topics. That would be a good way to stifle the sense of community, and that would be a real shame.”
Why did this all happen?

Mazille for repeatedly posting the message that was sent to the mods, I think.
Others for trying to inform posters on the front page what was going on. As far as I know, I don't have a connection into the minds of the psychopaths who did it.

Maz showed that Josh had broken promises and lied to staff. Josh silenced him. CJ explained this on the front page. Josh silenced him. I imagine the others were similar.

In some cases, they started to post comments to front page articles to highlight/protest/discuss this (politely I might add), once the forum had been made read only. There was no need to delete them and their posts from the forum to stop them, but it was done anyway in at least one case (CJ).

I’m just hazarding a guess here but I suspect that the RD.net forum became too much administrative trouble (all those software fuck-ups), too damned big and cost too much money to be sustained. If so, it would have been helpful to be told so. It also would have been polite to have tried to have found a new home for it.
