Cockroaches scatter when you shine light on them. They don't turn around and say "Hey, fuck you too buddy".

It's okay to insult Ratz like that. He was a member when he did it, so he's a cockroach too.Wumbologist wrote:Cockroaches scatter when you shine light on them. They don't turn around and say "Hey, fuck you too buddy".

You're assuming he remembers any of us amongst the thousands of people he meets (why would he?) and that he gives a good goddamn about anyone he comes into contact with (an assumption one really can't make). Meeting people doesn't equal connecting with and forming a relationship over time in which you get to know someone as an individual.

Well, he did a blog post on his meet with Robert and I, and did a video from footage I provided him last year. Plus his wife liked my work. So there's a chance.Bella Fortuna wrote:You're assuming he remembers any of us amongst the thousands of people he meets (why would he?) and that he gives a good goddamn about anyone he comes into contact with (an assumption one really can't make). Which, a few days ago, I'd probably have torn up a la Sinead O'Connor if I had a paper copy of it.

Ayaan and I gave him a ride to and from the Creation Museum during the last Skepticon. If he had known we were roaches he may not have gotten into the car.Bella Fortuna wrote:I just said hello and had a photo taken with him.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:Well, he did a blog post on his meet with Robert and I, and did a video from footage I provided him last year. So now he's no longer protected by the 'no personal attacks' rule?Ayaan wrote:No point in forcing him to remain a member here if he doesn't want to be.Woodbutcher wrote:Now they all take off in a snit without cleaning up their shit....Sort of like a pack of dogs shitting in your yard, or the dreaded Canadian Squat Team....Ayaan wrote:If that's what he wants, consider it done.Robert_S wrote:PZ has requested to be taken off the membership list.
We do not delete accounts here, but we do de-activate them. The next available admin will do that.
He won't be an active member, but as far as I know, we still won't tolerate personal attacks. I'm fine with that.

Re: How do we attract Skepchicks to sign up here?
Easy: adopt a very detailed sexual harassment policy whereby offending posts can be reported. If a woman says she feels offended by a post, then there should be no discussion or debate over whether it is reasonable for her to feel that way or whether it should be remedied. She is entitled to her own boundaries, and that means if she says it's offensive, then that's that. The offender is to be in some way taken to task, and this may mean immediate warnings and for repeat offenders, banning if need be.Robert_S wrote:The picture of them we've been getting from some of our regular posters is a bit one-sided. I think we'd benefit from a wider range of viewpoints on gender issues.
Also, there has to be more to them than just their stance on feminism. For me, this site is actually more of a fun community than a serious debate place. There is the occasional drama and very occasional gross stupidity, but overall we are a very accepting and welcoming bunch.
Obviously, since women are entitled to their own boundaries, any comments of a sexual or sexist nature can only be posted if the same are welcomed by women. So, one first needs to get to know each woman here, talk with each woman and get to know each woman and her boundaries. Then all posts posted by men must conform to each and every woman's personal boundaries.
Simple.

I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

My point was that it wasn't just a "shake and and walk on" thing, at least not with me. I brought him a jug of Missouri's finest corn whiskey at Skepticon III and we had fun with it. The next year I met him twice, once at Skepticon, once in St. Louis. He got a quart of 'shine the second time, really good stuff too.Twoflower wrote:I was going to say that too! And now I've achieved roachhood.

I know what you're saying, Zilla. It's hurtful. A lot of us have felt hurt by the assumptions and awful remarks made against the collective us.
