Brand Names As Descriptor

Post by pErvinalia » Fri Apr 29, 2016 1:59 am

When I was young, we had:

A Hoover (vacuum cleaner)
A Bistle (manual powered carpet brush)
A Brevil (toasted sandwich maker)

I wonder what lead to this phenomenon of calling general things by a single specific brand name. Was it a result of particular advertising campaigns?

What products did you have where a brand name was more commonly used than the actual product type name?
Sent from my penis using wankertalk.
"The Western world is fucking awesome because of mostly white men" - DaveDodo007.
"Socialized medicine is just exactly as morally defensible as gassing and cooking Jews" - Seth. Yes, he really did say that..
"Seth you are a boon to this community" - Cunt.
"I am seriously thinking of going on a spree killing" - Svartalf.
