please explain why it is Art to physically cover a coral atolls beaches in pink covers ..but it is not not art to do it in Photoshop.

please explain why popular art is not Art (unless it is old)

please explain the difference between a degree in art and qualifications in Sales ?(or for that matter economics or estate agency or PR)

One of the profs. at Purdue's School of Art was quoted as saying "We've had some really great artists come out of Purdue. And every one of them was great before he got here."

I agree. Some technical skills can be honed and improved but there's not one truly inspired artist who was made that way through college/university.

The following is not a painting by the much-criticized Jackson Pollock:

Image
And all our yesterdays have lighted fools
The way to dusty death. Out, out brief candle
Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more. It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing. [
Macbeth]

It am wicked to mock the afflicted. [
BH (Calcutta), failed]

Dope will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no dope. [
Freewheelin' Franklin]

The filename is correctly applied.

Okay, so it's not a painting.

Correct. This is the reference:

That wasn't the point I was trying to make, but while we're on the subject of surrealism, my favourite surrealist painting, principally because it annoyed the hell out of that pretentious twat and high priest of surrealism André Breton:

I have mutually contradictory views about Dali - which I am happy to hold. I also think his skill and craftsmanship are awe inspiring.

To go to your original point - I didn't recognise the pic as Pollock, but he did so many similar paintings it may well be..or possible an aerial map of somewhere..?

in Spain Dali and Picasso are regarded as the gods of art. In the specific case of Dali, I have in very high regard all the experimenting with perspective and imagination he conducted in his life. But in an extremely personal view, art for me is either the recording of a feeling or emotion, or the power to create a feeling or emotion. Ideally, both at the same time. The piece, should not be anything else than the vessel for that. Dali's work start and end in the vessel for me. It cannot transcend me. It has also been said a lot about its originality, but I cannot see Dali's paintings without thinking in El Bosco (geronimus Bosch) or however he would be originally spelled.
