I always hated the generally accepted idea that you should respect all old people.... because they're old. I remember realising that they might be 70, but they could have been a burglar, murderer or rapist. People earn respect, there's no other way. You can obviously give them the benefit of the doubt and almost respect them by default, but any hint of arse-ness and benefit of the doubt should vanish (IMO).

I'm getting older and I've noticed some younger people are treating me with more respect and listening to my sage advise. It pisses me off.

All they know about me is that I've been eating, breathing and pooping longer than them. I don't respect respect that is given so cheaply.


As for myself, I lost all respect for grownups the day I found out there was a cold war going on and the whole planet could all die in a nuclear conflagration.
