Both of those already had established squads when Rafa arrived, though. He had to start from scratch. Plus, in that time, Liverpool have finished above Arsenal in the league 3 times out of 5, and won the CL and the FA cup to Arsenals FA cup so I'm not sure how you'd say it's much worse.Devogue wrote: In five years he has signed 76 players for £229 million. The difference between Ferguson and Benitez's spending is £30 million, or one Berbatov - yet United's squad is miles deeper and more competent than Benitez's. And if Wenger is brought in to the equation it's much worse.

(I cribbed these numbers from a thread at lfc.tv btw)
The vast majority of his signings have been sold at profit, or if still at the club, have got to be worth more than we paid for them. Where are the expensive mistakes in that list? Babel, yes. Keane... ye-es, but I think there was more going on there than has been made public. Morientes? Yeah, maybe, but everyone thought he'd be brilliant. Dossena? Yeah, I'd go with that, but in context having 3 internationals at left back (2 of whom can cover in midfield) for a total of £9m is not bad. Pennant? Is a twat.
So 2 stinkers, 2 with extenuating circumstances, and one that everyone got wrong. Any others?
is young, could yet turn out to be decent, and more to the point is our 4th choice cm.Look at the shit in Liverpool's first team squad - the witless Lucas,
15 goals from rm last season. Not bad surely?the headless fucking chicken that is Kuyt
comparing him with probably the best player (and biggest bargain) the pl has ever had is hardly fair(cost £2 million less than Ronaldo!),
I'll give you that onethe useless Voronin
another one I want to keep, he's looking better all the timeand N'gog,
no, I'll give you that one too.the underperforming Babel (do you think Ferguson would spend £10 million on a player and let him arse about like he has)
You saw how last season went, right? You don't think we were seriously challenging?and on and on and on...
Carragher and Gerard have now moved to beyond their prime, there is no one coming through - by this stage of Ferguson's reign in 1992 he was seriously challenging for the league. Liverpool are going nowhere.
I'm not sure he'd want to work for Statler and Waldorf, though, would he? He's hardly had a stellar record in the transfer market either, tbf.
Yes. He wants back in the Prem and there are only a couple of clubs he would come back to. Liverpool is one of them and he's not going to hang around for Ferguson to retire.
