Anxiety and Depression

Post by rainbow » Mon Jul 18, 2022 11:29 am

Almost everyone seems to be diagnosed with this now.

Question: Would it be sane and logical to be otherwise bearing in mind the world going to crap?

Many things probably promote these types of lines of thought. Also ADHD behavior. We are living in a world we did not evolve for. We handle some things OK, such as speed in hobbies, sports, driving. Others not so much.

The right wingers are worried about their kids finding that we did bad things and also that we are going to run of oil. We are never going back to 1950. But they want to block that, in their mind MAGA is going to take us back to 1950.

Mostly the result of not getting enough. Go back to the sixties and seventies, getting enough times. Depression and anxiety was a niche hobby. Now its the business. Through not getting enough.

Crap times then. But the phallus reached the moon. And no one cared about the climate. Even though they should. Like today. But they got enough.

I wouldn't know, I have those because my own life is concentrated crap, I could not care less for the fate of the rest of the world.

The perception of the world going to crap was more pervasive and intense during the 1960s. Only Peter Sellers managed to laugh about it. Everyone else - except for the millions who were not chewing at the hunger cloth - was busy building fallout shelters.

"Duck and cover" type exercises were regular occurrences.

Yes, it would. Healthy people manage to retain their optimism in spite of disruptive environments. Interview prostitutes living in the squalor in India and they will tell you they live pretty contented lives. It's actually the unhealthy, those with a mental pathology of depression, whose mood is likely to present a more accurate barometer of conditions in their environment. Healthy people like weebles will wobble but they won't fall down.

I blame Trump.

I find weed helps. Not with anxiety, I've never had that, but in general. I have dealt with depression, and it sucks. I seem to have grown out of it, though, I just don't care enough to be depressed about anything.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

This touches on a central issue - is it external issues causing a depression, or is it endogenous?

I'm afraid it's kind of more complicated. I mean, sure, external factors have done a lot to provoke my bouts of depression, but I'm not sure if they would have so much effect if I weren't naturally moody and prone to negative attitudes.

I think it can be both.

In 50% of cases should improve, in 50% of cases not so much...Marmite, unlike the standard anti-depressent that in 50% of cases improve whilst 50% of cases are in a suicide spiral.

Then antidepressants pass the tests well! They prevent depression! In rats.
