Is Science A Cult Nowadays?
Seems to be very white even without the traditional white smocks. And militant atheism. Seemed very popular for a few years. And the need for science heroes, living or dead, whose adulation often outshines whatever endeavour was their accomplishment? And these days, question any orthodoxy and risk becoming labelled with a conspiracy nut moniker. Which whilst often deserved appears nowadays a short cut to ending debate and a part of cancel culture. And now everything refers back to climate change. Not the blue skies thinking of open ended science at all.

Don't forget the use of studies by everyone and their dog, especially from the social sciences, which haven't been repeated or which may have serious design flaws. They're everywhere and always "proving" all sorts of things.
As someone who only recently studied science, and then only undergraduate, I have an immense amount of respect for actual scientists and almost none for the casual use of "sciencey" things especially when used to support a political agenda.*
*naturally I may be guilty here too

It's fascinating stuff. But it also deals a lot with questions we all have a stake in, and tends to seem more accessible and relatable, which I guess might make it more likely to be misunderstood and abused.

Sociology is what remains after you escape the gulags. But you never really escape the gulags with sociology.
