Want a simple diet? Beer, brats and add sauerkraut twice a week for vitamins.

Said Peter...what you're requesting just isn't my bag
Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late

Turn stone to bread, said Daemon Duncetan
Turn stone to bread right away...

Carbs, protein, and leafy greens. Perfect.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

How did we get to talking about the Netherlands vs the world again?

Anyway,

Are you really disputing that it actually happened by poisoning the well like this, or suggesting that it could never happen, or just saying that everybody in the Netherlands with a mental health diagnosis never suffers unduly and always gets the best outcome possible? C'mon Scot, you don't need much wit or imagination to know that in some cases managing mental illness can be very challenging for all concerned, and in a few cases damn near impossible.

Mental illness is not just a function of social conditions, though they are a factor of course. I was s psychiatric social worker ‘approved’ under the Mental Health act for a couple of years in my 30s (I hated it and got out pretty quickly).

While the benign and molly coddling policies of the Netherlands probably go some way to reducing the instances of some forms of mental illness - perhaps those related to stress (?) it is also true to say that the instances of some of the more acute ‘psychotic’ Illnesses are spread pretty evenly across all cultures and societies, whether you live in Russia, Japan or the uk. Just because Holland is a jolly nice place to live (apparently) does not mean it doesn’t have its share of such things.

Especially when comparing apples and pears. She refused to eat point blank as she wanted to die. The guy did not refuse to eat but kept on with an unhealthy diet. Never read anywhere he wanted to die. Quite different.

No, she was a kid with bad carers. Social services should have stepped in. Medical staff failed. Her parents didn't help with her depression. She didn't have enough character. Typical Dutch mindset, making excuses.

See how easy, and how counterproductive that kind of guff is?
