Oh. "hearses" is an actual word. I thought it was just a spelling mistake...

Actually, more like eight.Hermit wrote:Most of them actually have five.
First gear is walk, called a free walk in dressage - the typical slow, ambling walk of a horse, with relaxed shoulders and croup and a nodding head. Second gear is an active, collected walk, a more purposeful and balanced gait with a steady head. Then the extended walk, which a horse will do naturally before going into/after coming out of trot, with longer strides such that the back feet approach the hoof prints made by the front feet - a feature of the gait often called 'tracking up'. Then the five mentioned in the article, though the trot and canter can both exhibit distinct features in power and balance, usually referred to as 'working' and 'collected'.

Tero can you put that bit of "poetry" under a spoiler. It takes up too much space.

I learned that the animals the hippopotamus is closest to are the cetaceans... and to me it doesn't make sense...
I always thought the cetaceans hailed from carnivorous megafauna that had decided to eat fish when the lands became inhospitable... I have difficulties picturing them as hailing from some kind of pachyderm that was mostly herbivorous...

The revisions to taxonomy are down to DNA analysis. Richard Dawkins does a good job of explain the new taxonomy in "The Ancestor's Tale".

God delusion is philosophy and politics. Ancestor's Tale is pure science.
