The Pope announced the other day that there is no Hell.

In a more controversial announcement today, he clarified that gingers really do have souls, overturing 2000 years of official church dogma.
“When I was in college, I took a terrorism class. ... The thing that was interesting in the class was every time the professor said ‘Al Qaeda’ his shoulders went up, But you know, it is that you don’t say ‘America’ with an intensity, you don’t say ‘England’ with the intensity. You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “... But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.” - Ilhan Omar

Of course nobody cares except the catholic church. It uses the data to back up its claim on numbers.
You said they "own your soul", like they have some sort of hold over you. Using the registry to back up its claims isn't holding anything over you.
I was being sarcastic. :smug:

Souls are everything in the catholic church which is why anything wrong at birth the mother pays the ultimate as the church has her soul. The baby is a fresh soul.

The Catholic church certainly seemed to many as if they 'owned the souls' of true believers. Guilt, fear of eternal damnation - and mostly guilt - made slaves of many a Catholic. It was as pernicious as Islam can be today in its way.

And that's before we even factor in the abuse of power in its various manifestations.

Quite similar to me, Rum. Bron was brought up catholic, but now detests the church because of the child abuse scandals. I think she still has a vague belief in god, but in all practical senses is not religious. Certainly the Catholic church here has taken a big hit in terms of practicing members - the ones that remain vaguely "cultural catholics" are of minor importance.

I have Jewish and Catholic ancestors. As you can imagine, Easter is a very special time for me, as I get to persecute myself for killing Jesus.

I don't derail threads. I comment on your lies and/or misrepresentations and/or logical fallacies, and then you spend 20,000 words denying what you wrote. And Cunt's thread that you accused me of derailing wasn't even that favourable to your crap argument. I didn't even respond to any problems in your posts. But YOU jumped into a debate between me and Cunt and then tone policed the shit out of the thread. 47 pages later you are still going, despite the mountains of evidence that you tone police and straight out lie. I.e. YOU derailed that thread, not me. :fp:

And I'm not going to participate in your derailing of this thread. Go ahead and equivocate your little heart out, but I'm over your ridiculous dishonesty.
