Germany's Bibiana Steinhaus insists she is no feminist trailblazer as she prepares to become the first female ref in Europe's top leagues having already tamed Bayern Munich's stars.

The 38-year-old is on the official list of Bundesliga referees for the 2017/18 season, which starts Friday, meaning she will become the first female ref in the top flight of Germany, England, Spain, France or Italy.

Steinhaus' first Bundesliga match has yet to be announced, but she oversaw Bayern Munich's 5-0 win at minnows Chemnitz last Saturday in the first-round of the German Cup and proved she can handle star players.

Interesting. This year, for the first time, Aussie rules football also had a female field umpire.

Pretty little thing, too... :tea:

No, I admire both her competence as an umpire and her attractiveness.

To assume the 2 were mutually incompatible would be truly sexist... :tea:

Would you say that about a male umpire?

There's no reason why a woman shouldn't be a perfectly good, fair and reasonable umpire. :prof:

For a good portion of the month anyway. :ask:

What we need is a committee, fairly representative of society, with proper recognition of the Progressive Stack, so that marginalized and traditionally underrepresented groups are given preferential status so that things are equal. That committee needs to come up with new sports, which fairly entail the talents and abilities of males and females, and all sexes in between, as well as non-binary versions, etc. The whole reason women aren't "as good" at soccer, American football, Canadian football, Aussie football, rugby, hockey, golf, tennis, baseball, auto racing, motorcycle racing, skiing, skating, jumping, vaulting, gymnastics, swimming, shooting, chess, hot dog eating, curling, quidditch, darts, cricket, rounders, softball, and such, is that the rules and parameters of the game were made by a sexist, misogynistic patriarchy. So, of course men are "better" at those games and sports. If the games and sports were invented in a matriarchal society, built on the strengths of women rather than men, then men would be bad at sports and women would earn all the large salaries and payouts while men's games and sports would be considered substandard and boring.

It's all a social construct. So, that committee I referred to should be tasked to change the rules and invent new games to make things equal.
“When I was in college, I took a terrorism class. ... The thing that was interesting in the class was every time the professor said ‘Al Qaeda’ his shoulders went up, But you know, it is that you don’t say ‘America’ with an intensity, you don’t say ‘England’ with the intensity. You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “... But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.” - Ilhan Omar
