Is zero a culturally defined concept from the middle east?

Post by cronus » Sat Jan 21, 2017 5:18 am

Zero - everyone uses it for balance but it is as chimerical as OO to the thinking sort. Strange how so many religious sorts make a living out of nothing....but what if it is a meaningless concept and less than a place a holder for nothing, more a cultural defined stick used to beat the other guy when rations+ideas are getting low?

What will the world be like after its ruler is removed?

No.

It is simply a single point on the real number line, nothing to get excited about. Sure, you don't want it as a denominator, but neither do you want Trump as president...

I wasn't aiming this remark at the real experts. It is a different time now, a very unpredictable outcome. Look who won the vote count first? :tea:

Zero is that unique real number that satisfies the following properties:

For all X: X+0 =X
For all X: X(0) =0

For all X,Y: X=Y if and only if X-Y=0

What if zero is a cylinder of varying lengths viewed end on?

I know zero at a gut level.

It is a valid but horrible descriptor of the number of bottles of gin I possess when I run out...
