We forget that the importance of something is always an importance "to" something. A relevance is always a relevance "to" something. Things are not inherently meaningful or relevant, or consequential. They are only meaningful, relevant or consequential "to" something else.
So, is a rock in space in the Andromeda galaxy important? Not to us. But, one hurtling to our planet is very important to us, but not the denizens of a planet in the Andromeda galaxy. Are we important to the universe? I guess at least as important as any other grouping of atoms. We're part of the universe.
Do we have "meaning" -- well, meaning is a value judgment. We have no meaning to rocks in outer space, because they don't think. Nothing is meaningful to them. To some people down here, some of us mean something to each other. However, that jerk Xing Tsing in the Tchongzing province of western China -- I don't give a shit about that fucker.

You mean willing to TRY. And whether it's a veterinary surgeon (as I suspect you mean) or a military veteran (which I don't suspect you mean), it will be a fucking dangerous thing for them to try and they risk getting put down instead. But, even if you are successful you STILL can't manage it. You see, if the universe does end when I die, then you will not be around to prove to me it hasn't. And if the universe doesn't cease to exist when I die, I will be dead and you won't be able to prove to me that the universe still exists. On the other hand, if you are successful and kill my corporeal body and you CAN thereafter somehow prove to me that the universe did not cease to exist, then I won't actually have died because my consciousness would necessarily have continued unharmed after the death of my corporeal body, which means there is an "afterlife" in which you would be submitting such proof and I wouldn't be dead yet.
Bit of a conundrum there, eh?
