Evolution vs Chaos

Post by cronus » Fri Sep 26, 2014 11:24 am

It looks evolved but really is a product of random arbitrary changes. No one could predict mammoths, dinosaurs or flowers from the primordial soup would ooze, let alone humans and smartphones. It's cumulative ordering in a runaway jet-stream of chaos. It is pure chaos if you ignore the time aspect, and that is easy with many equations and after you die too. Chaos will win in the end, there is no evolution.

Chaos has won already. How could you possibly see evolution in any of this?

You only have the perception of a ordered universe because of a sense of time which is going to die away when your brain which structures time thus dies away.

You are what makes evolution true. No you, no evolution. Only chaos persists to explain why it is so, the way it is now.

You're confusing 'time' with 'flow of time'. 'Time' exists independent of our brains. Well, at least if we assume a non-solipsistic world.

You have already made one arbitrary assumption there so why not push the boat out? unicorns on Mars with that?

It's an assumption that underpins our existence. It's not so much an assumption but more a necessity.

You're still only wibbling about time regardless of how many assumptions I may or may not make.

Doesn't order exist within chaos and vice-versa?

I discovered fractals a while ago and I can no longer look at a tree in the same way again. It has opened up a new way of thinking for me.

Could I dare to postulate that chaos versus order is dependant upon where (or when) one views it?

The OP should really be "Natural selection vs chaos"

And the answer, as usual, is a mixture, proportions varying depending on circumstances.

It actually should be natural selection vs randomness. Chaos isn't randomness or disorder. It's just the apoearence of such.
