Dead bodies have no value.

Post by Blind groper » Sat May 10, 2014 1:37 am

I expect to snuff it some time between now and 35 years from now. I told my wife (who will probably live longer than me) that she should dispose of my corpus by whatever means the law permits that costs as little as possible. This will probably mean cremation, leaving her with a box of ashes. I told her to dispose of those ashes any way she wanted to. I would not care if she flushed them down the toilet. I also told her not to erect any marker.

Of course, I cannot force her to do what I suggest, and when I am dead, I will not give a damn anyway. My view is that we have our life, averaging 80 years, and when we die, nothing else matters. Funerals, graves, cremations, memorials and so on are meaningful only to the people still alive. The dead guy don't give a damn.

For this reason, I see expensive funerals and all the rest of that garbage as a total waste of money. There is no duty to the dead, since they don't care. There is only duty to yourself, if you are still alive, and to other living people.

What are your views on how we should deal with corpses, and memorials, and what do you want done with your rotting body when you kark it?

Mulched and added to my veggie patch - definite fertiliser value. I would expect a damn good crop of cabbages the following year...

A body would likely gain value if you were to stuff it and sell it as a hat stand/umbrella stand, or something. No doubt it would then be worth more than the value of it's component elements which would cost a little less than £5.00 to buy.

As for my own body, I suppose it might be of most practical use put through a wood chipper into a hole in the ground in a forest, maybe. Actually, I dunno if that would be any use since trees draw most of their mass out of thin air anyway. :dunno:

Fuck it. Just turn me into Soylent Green, or something.

You probably would not expect anything by then, Jim.

My father didn't want a funeral, so he approached the medical faculty of QU to see if they want his body. It turns out that the faculty does accept bodies, but they are vetted. Only interesting specimens are accepted. Due to the baseball sized, inoperable tumour in his skull he qualified. He died three years ago. He was embalmed and stored for a few months. After staff and students were through doing with the carcass whatever it is they do he was cremated and the ashes strewn around in what they call The Garden of Remembrance. Oh, and they asked for a donation to go towards services rendered. We passed the hat around and came up with about 500 dollars.

I don't care what will be done with my body when I die. Just sliding my body overboard at sea might be the second cheapest way. Hiring a little boat for a couple of hours can't cost much, but I doubt that would be allowed. Cheaper still would be to sell it to the nearest pet food factory, but again, that plan is probably difficult to implement.

I have a vague plan to be way out in the wilderness somewhere when I pop my cork. The animals will take care of the flesh. Barring that, I am pretty sure I would follow Hermit's dad's lead and donate it to a medical facility, if they would take it.

That's an extravagantly expensive cremation. Also, it will not work if you take the trip at night.

Oh yeah. Well, maybe another sun. What if they pointed me at Alpha Centauri and launched me that way?

Well, I guess you wouldn't be in any hurry...

Redundant issue with WW3 looming now. Cremation is cheapest when it's done in volume I suppose and what's another year compared with the infinite number coming up for you?

I intend to sneak onto an airbase, steal an F 35, stand it on it's tail will full afterburners and just go till it runs out of juice, what happens after is up to gravity.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

It would probably run out of air before it ran out of juice. :prof:
