There's no afterlife. A million years from now and everything you've achieved will be so much dust. Why do you bother? Why not drink a couple of bottles of whisky and make easier choices?

I blame the limits of human intelligence. A smarter animal would not have spent a century at war with itself over territory and resources. Would have stopped religion in it's beginning. Would be living for today on a party planet.

Take drugs? It goes without saying 'inner space' is as deeply mysterious as outer space. And maybe outer space should be qualified as a special subset of 'inner space' since we can't be aware of our surroundings except via the biochemistry of our brains. Which means we should be treating 'drug adventurers/tripternauts' with the same adulation as we do astronauts. Their chemical enterprises taking place in pristine labs rather than in cellars underground. The war on drugs seen as the barbarism it is.
