serial killers

Post by kiki5711 » Tue Jun 05, 2012 11:20 pm

According to FBI behavioral unit study, 85% of serial killers are in the United States.

Ah, but the most interesting ones are in the other 15% of the world.

A serial killer is someone who murders three or more people with a cooling off period between each kill. The record keeping has to associate three different murders separated by time (and sometimes distance) with one person. This is why most of the serial killers identified are in the US.

My point was that there are probably just as many serial killers per capita in other large societies/countries, where the killers are able to operate for long enough without being detected or caught. We may just not have ever heard about them, often because the authorities don't realise it, or because they operate using different criteria or procedures.

SNAP!

By that criteria, a lot of males in "primitive" societies would have been classed as serial killers.

There's an excellent movie called "Comrade X" with Donald Sutherland, which traces the first Soviet serial killer identified. He was a piece of work.

Kevin, military men are specifically exempted from the definition because they don't kill for personal reasons.

Andrei Chikatilo presumably.

As for military men, well, you hope they don't kill for personal reasons.

Yep, Chikatilo. The hex-wife made me watch it with her. I think that was when the creep-out started.

Well, I have, but not serially.

A list of known serial killers, meeting 'Zilla's basic definition above:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_se ... of_victims

Lots of non-Americans there, especially amongst the more prolific killers. But I suspect there are a great many "lesser" serial killers outside the USA who've never been identified as such, let alone caught - see above.

You'll notice who wrote that definition?

Kiki, I assume you're taking the piss. That might be how Americans think, but it's not actually true.

I was in the suburban hs for a half a year with serial wife killer Peterson. I do not remember any people and only one teacher from the time.
