Well, there is quite a bit of language and etymology information online, even very, very obscure and local dialects tend to be analyzed in depth. This is, also, a situation where the information could really help the "drumpf" people -- i.e., if it could be shown that "drumpf" was really short for dummkopf in a dialect of German, then that would make John Oliver's skit that much more humorous and applicable.

As it happens, it's just a funny sounding name that doesn't mean dummkopf. There being no objective or verifiable evidence for the usage you propound, well, unfortunately I don't put much weight in it. Maybe you can pull a quote from one of Nibergall's plays. Surely, they're published somewhere, no? Pretty much everything gets online these days.
“When I was in college, I took a terrorism class. ... The thing that was interesting in the class was every time the professor said ‘Al Qaeda’ his shoulders went up, But you know, it is that you don’t say ‘America’ with an intensity, you don’t say ‘England’ with the intensity. You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “... But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.” - Ilhan Omar

You can put as much or as little weight on my personal knowledge, which is that in our local dialect 'Drumpf' is short for 'Dummkopf'. It does amuse me as much as the name of police Sergeant Gamble, who worked in the NSW Special Gaming Squad, or that of the 30th Roman Catholic Archbishop of Manila, Cardinal Sin. I can probably find an online reference for one of the three, but to me they are as funny with as without such provenance.

"incremental change". Good luck with that. Particularly with a candidate that isn't really interested in much change at all.

It's that or Jesus or Trump. Sanders is not getting the nomination.

Well he certainly won't while people keep refusing to accept him as a genuine candidate.

Yes, it could be that "we can't have him as a candidate because he couldn't win the election" is something of a self-fulfilling prophecy...

Fair enough. Even if you are correct, it really says nothing about Donald Trump. If he changed his own name, sure. But, his grandfather changing his name? In the US, that's not even uncommon. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, name changes were common to anglicize names that were funny sounding or hard to pronounce to the anglo-American population-- German names had a lot of umlauts and consonant combinations.

No, it's that we're already more than half way through the voting nationally, so unless he not only gets accepted as a genuine candidate, but wins in an absolute landslide for all the remaining states (taking 2/3 of all remaining delegates) he can't possibly win. It's math, not sentiment.

So if it's common why did he make fun of John Stewart for doing it? :ask:

Is this really that difficult? Because Stewart changed his name for show biz purposes, because he was embarrassed by his real name. Trump never changed his name.

Moreover, of what import is it that Trump made fun of Stewart? Does that suddenly make it funny that Trump's grandfather changed his name?
