Plenty of young people live in the hood. People do live in the hood. Unless...well...unless...you don't consider hood dwellers to be people. Probably an Oz thing.

But, yes, indeed -- "young people" should live where they can afford to live, and if that's in a less than ideal (for them) neighborhood, because they think they were born above living in that neighborhood or something, well, so be it.

My very fabulous gay nephew bought a house in Da Hood. Really nice little Spanish colonial, built in the 20s, with a big backyard and two enormous mango trees. Suckers had to be 80 feet tall. The kids in the neighborhood would sneak in and steal all his mangos, then set up a stand on the sidewalk and try to sell them back to him. Sort of cute, actually. But then a van full of illegal Mexicans was fleeing from the police and crashed into his house, through the wall, and into his living room. He woke up to a large van and 8 or 10 Mexicans running around his living room trying to get out, screaming about POLICIA and LA MIGRA. That was when he finally decided to sell up.

It's funny now, of course.

Dude, the "hood" lak was referring to is in fucking Sarasota Florida, it's a thriving economic area.

It's like, when young people started moving into the "hood" in Hoboken NJ in the 1980s, because they could commute to Manhattan. Hoboken was the hood then, but it was close to where they can work. Eventually, Hoboken turned into a very sought after zip code.
