Maybe your reportage is right and kids really are screwed in America. Irish kids todays are such stand up kids as far as I can see. And I see them on the bus every day going into work. So much more polite and well groomed than we were. Stats show that they drink and take drugs less too.

It does seem to be an American thing. You see so little of this in Australia, like Ireland.

It may be -- our universities have become absolutely insane. Give a search on youtube for the protests at Rutgers University of Milo Yiannopolus. It's the most bizarre stuff you've ever seen. Milo gives a talk, crazed protesters smear fake blood on themselves and throw it on others, and scream like they're trying to stop the Vietnam War.

Flu vaccinations are optional if you are in a healthy condition. But there are other vaccinations that need to be refreshed every few years. (I am sure the details are somewhere on Wikipedia). Also, new vaccinations are developed. It is a good idea to check with a doctor every couple of years to see whether there are any new vaccinations you would need or any necessary boosters. It is also a good idea to get general check-ups (blood and urine tests) every couple of years to be able to detect long-time problems early on. Also: Checks for skin cancer every couple of years from the age of 30 and more cancer prophylaxes starting at older ages.

Tero isn't a child. Tetanus isn't required, nor is an unvaccinated person a threat to others. Dip and whooping cough booster can be between age 10-15 years old. So you are wronger than a wrong thing.

My point is that "Not seeing a doctor regularly" is generally not a good thing.

As doing repairs on complex machines is not a good thing. We have experts for this stuff. Let the experts do their job.

I had no idea about health insurance. Never went to a doctor between age 12 and 21. In grad school they gave me insurance. I used it once.

So you are not vaccinated, then? Should be ashamed of yourself endangering other people.

The only vaccination I remember getting after 12 was tetanus and then a flu shot a couple times as an adult. I think there is a meningitis one now as well, but that wasn't offered when I was young and since Tero is older than me...

Have you asked your GP for new vaccinations? Over here, every person has an "Impfpass" (vaccination pass) where it is marked what vaccinations you got. You take your Impfpass to your GP regularly to check if you need some new vaccination. There are even advertisements by the government targeting adults to do that regularly:

We used to carry a "shot card", international certificate of vaccination. But I grew up overseas, where we got jabbed with a plethora of stuff - tetanus, typhus, typhoid, yellow fever, cholera, hepatitis, probably a few others. Cholera was every 6 months and your arm ached for a week afterwards. Most other stuff was annual except I think tetanus was good for 5 years. I fucking hated it.
