In their wisdom and reverence for free speech, the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin promulgated a rule that would punish students who use disruptive tactics to protest against on-campus speakers. After all, free speech is a central tenet of American law and culture!
Wisconsin?

Don't they do despicable things to cows there?
Sadie Marquardt was born in Wisconsin. That alone makes up for whatever Wisconsinites do to cows.

A white Wisconsonite belly dancing? Very problematic. It's clear cultural appropriation.

Salon explains why this author can't stand white belly dancers -- just the white ones -- http://www.salon.com/2014/03/04/why_i_c ... y_dancers/ - because even though culture is a social construct, if your genetics are white, you are appropriating Arabic culture by belly dancing, even though many Arabs are white and even "caucasian" in genetics.

It all began when comedian and writer Shon Faye highlighted the stark difference in attire on Twitter, writing: "Ed Sheeran is a 27-year-old man the fact we’ve enabled him to feel it’s ok to dress like this at all, let alone next to Beyonce really boils my p*ss."

This is fucking hilarious. O.k., so now it's some sort of gender bias thing - some patriarchy nonsense - that Ed Sheeran (whose music I have no interest in or appreciation for) is somehow "feeling" as if it's "ok" to dress like this at all, let alone next to Beyonce.... and we've "enabled" this.
"This photo is v v v v representative of what we expect from men and women at the top of their game, isn’t it?"
"men can stand more on their hard work and talent alone while women often have to 10/10 everything".
I mean - this may well be peak Progressive Leftist SJW.

The link didn't work. Is this another example of the patriarchy oppressing women into spending far more on their clothing and make-up?

Odd - link works for me. It's people griping that Beyonce' wore a flamboyant gown, while Ed Sheeran wore jeans and a t-shirt.

The Progressive SJW line on this is not that women should also be allowed to wear t-shirts and jeans, but that Ed Sheeran was enabled by "us" (I guess the culture) to wear t-shirts while female artists are made to go the extra mile on everything.

This is emblematic of the whole "everything is problematic" movement today. Doesn't matter that Cheryl Crow wears jeans and t-shirts sometimes, and Elton John was about as flamboyant as anyone can get. Oh, no. If a woman is going to go on stage in a dress, then goddammit the man should have checked with her first and dressed accordingly!

I wonder if they've considered that Beyonce looks great in her outfit and Ed looks like a slob in his.

I wonder if they've considered that Beyonce would not be famous if she didn't 'feminine' up her outfits. How many famous female entertainers get by on their looks? How many on their talent?

I'm no expert, but I think she's pretty clearly talented. She's also hot too, so she's got it going on both fronts.

Video to excess has made real musical talent somewhat problematic, and for female performers, the pressure to rely heavily on strongly sexualised material must be immense...

Every really talented musician is VERY pretty. I learned that from the TV and Instagrams.

Songwriters are out of the spotlight. There should be a more even playing field there. They could all wear sweats, as long as the songs are good.

Do we have data on whether songwriters are all 'TV-pretty'?

I think that there is a serious distortion in popular music, particularly for female performers. There probably always was to an extent, but you don't seem to get Joan Baez or Joni Mitchell types anymore - it's all tits and bums...
