When I was about 14 I briefly convinced myself that I could divine for water. I walked around the back yard with two L-shaped pieces of wire in both hands, pointing straight ahead. Whenever I approached the garden hose with water flowing through it the wires would magically move apart, then come back together again as I walked on. If I moved the hose to a different location, the same happened in the new location. It also worked for the buried pipes in the garden, which I knew the location of, and planted containers of water. I walked a grid of the yard so I was sure I had catalogued all hidden locations of underground water.
One day I tried the ultimate test. With eyes tightly closed I spun around many times (but trying to keep a mental track of how many times I turned). I stopped at a point where I was fairly sure I was facing one of the planted and tested water targets. Then I walked, with eyes still closed, towards the target. When I sensed that I had walk the right distance and was approaching the target I felt the wires spread apart like magic. Only then did I open my eyes.
The first failure wasn't that disheartening, but after multiple similar and varied tests I had to concede the bleeding obvious.

I used to believe that FedUpWithFaith was a positive contribution to this forum. How fucked up was that? :nono:

That men have one less rib on each side than women  (a remnant of my catholic upbringing)

Only recently (like literally about a month or so ago) did I actually get round to looking up this little nugget of misinformation, I was shocked to say the least that I had let that one go unchallenged for so long, I just naturally assumed that the whole Rib-Woman thing was incorporated into the Genesis story to explain why men have one less rib than women.......but they don't! :nono:

OMG yes! Though I found out the truth many years ago - I remember being told "Got took one rib from Adam to make Eve, and that's why men have one less rib than women".
:funny:
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

I remember hearing that one as a kid and trying to count my ribs on each side. I kept getting the same number for some reason.

It's true. I'm a scientist, and whenever two or more of us are gathered together, bollocks talk will flow. Particularly in the pub, which is where all the best scientific ideas are hatched. :td:

I used to believe there was no such thing as Allah. Then I came across Mandy's evidence and I have now seen the light, it's that compelling.
It's a piece of piss to be cowiz, but it's not cowiz to be a piece of piss. Or something like that.

I used to be Christian, then deist. Timeline is blurry, I forget when I actively stopped believing to be honest, that's how much of a non-event it must have been for me.

I used to believe in ESP and Telekenesis, and then puberty came and all that went out the window.
