The Islamic Sharia Council is a London-based, quasi-Islamic court that provides legal rulings and advice to Muslims in accordance with Islamic Sharia based on the four Sunni schools of thought. It primarily handles cases of marriage and divorce and, to a lesser extent business and finance. The council has no legal authority or jurisdiction in the United Kingdom.
That is one that isn't part of the official mediation process though. Was there something in the news recently that some sharia courts in the UK had been ruling on murders???

Coito ergo sum, to by understanding (once more) it is not legally binding... For example under Islamic law, the punishment for stealing is chopping the hand off, of the thief. Even though the Sharia can sit, and the prosecutor to present his case, and the ruling could be that yes indeed, a Muslim did steal, for which the punishment is chopping the hand off, of the thief. Even though symbolically they can give that verdict/ruling it does not hold legal precedence, since they cannot enforce the copping off of a hand, since the accused would have to agree to having his hand-chopped off.

Another example might be, for example since I am an apostate of Islam, therefore I should be killed, even though the sharia court can symbolically say I should be killed it's legal validity under British law is diddle squat. Imagine this, I have kids with a Muslim woman, I become and apostate she goes to the Sharia court, gets a fatwa passed that I must give the kids to the Muslim woman since I no longer am a Muslim. I don't have to, and they can't enforce it, unless if she goes to a secular court. It these courts as I said before have no legal validity, it is symbolic for religious reasons.
