Year 1 under Trump
Feel free to tease your new Canadian brothers. We can laugh at ourselves! President Trump once called our maple leaf a “gay oak leaf.” He called French “gay English.” He called Canada “gay France, which is saying something, because France itself is very gay.” Also, President Trump once used American tax dollars to send five thousand pizzas to our Parliament Hill. In fact, eight per cent of your American taxes are now allotted for “international pranks on huge haters.” What a goof that guy is! Sorry for cursing just now.

They should. That way, the Americans will be able to copy it. Any wall Americans build would be a really piss-poor wall compared to what a civilized country can build.

Super Tuesday Predictions --

Texas: Ted Cruz will win Texas, but Trump will receive enough votes to get a share of the delegates.
Alabama: Trump (guaranteed)
Arkansas: Trump (probably -- Cruz has a chance)
Georgia: Trump (guaranteed)
Massachusetts: Trump (guaranteed)
Oklahoma: Trump (guaranteed)
Tennessee: Trump (guaranteed)
Virginia: Trump (probably - Rubio has a small chance)
Minnesota: Probably Rubio (Trump has a chance)
Alaska: Trump
Vermont: Trump
Colorado: Even money Trump, Rubio or Cruz.

Delegate count is a harder thing to predict because some states dole out delegates proportionally, and others are winner take all.

But, Trump will come away with a commanding lead, and on March 15, they go to Florida where Trump is going to stick a fork in Rubio by beating him in his home state.

If Trump happens to come out on top in Texas today, you will hear Cruz being declared dead. If Cruz does not win his home state of Texas, he is finished. So, Trump has a chance of destroying Cruz's campaign today, but it's not likely. Texans don't like New Yorkers. The only chance Trump has is that there is a lot of the same angst going on in Texas as there is all across the South, and people may have zero fucks to give about his New York-ness.

A win for Trump in Texas and a win in Florida all but guarantees him the nomination, in my view. But, even without a Texas win today, he will come away from today with a commanding lead and the media will have to acknowledge him as a serious candidate.

I have heard rumblings on the news the last couple of days, establishment Republicans are threatening not to vote for Trump and they are even threatening mounting an independent challenge to Trump if Trump gets the nomination. So much for all the "pledges" made in the first debate where every GOP candidate raised their hand and promised not to run against the party.

The fear and anger of the establishment Republicans is growing and it is now a full blown panic.

Wow - even John Oliver can't do a good job skewering Trump?

I mean, really --

He says he self-funds his campaign, but he really "loaned" his campaign so far $17,000,000 and has taken small donations (like Bernie Sanders) from individuals. Really? That's a rip on him? He's spent less than any other candidate in every state, and he's winning. He hasn't taken any large donations from any corporate interests. He has no super-PAC. But, because he might pay back some of his loan to his campaign out of the campaign donations he has received, he's a scumbag? LOL -- we look at the other candidates, though, and they have superpacs, are taking big moneyed interests' cash, and are outspending him by orders of magnitude, but he's the scumbag? These aren't even large sums of money Trump is talking about -- if Hillary or anyone else spent as little as Trump is spending on their campaigns, they'd be lauded as groundbreakers, working to change the money-focused way of running wasteful campaigns.

And, then Oliver says that Trump says he's a tough guy, but gets sensitive about people ripping on him. The example, someone declaring that he has short fingers, and trump taking exception. Wow - Trump reacts to personal attacks on him by attacking back? You got him!

Trump says he's a successful business man because he's built billion dollar businesses -- but, because he got an inheritance from his father and because he also lost a lot of money, this is a problem. LOL. People who build businesses lose money sometimes, John Oliver. I mean -- most wealthy and successful people have failed in their lives. It's called "trying", dipshit. This is the best kind of attack Oliver can make on Trump?

And, then Trump is a dick because he claims to be wealthier than they think he probably is.

And, then John Oliver thinks it's hilarious that Donald Trump started selling Trump Steaks and sold them through the Sharper Image. "That is a weird choice!" says Oliver. Ha ha ha. Yeah, that disqualifies him for President -- he took a shot at selling steaks under his brand and sold them through a novel or non-traditional outlet (known for expensive gadgets).

And, he started "Trump Mortgage" - move to a clip to Trump announcing how good it will be. And, Oliver quips "yeah it wasn't!" Oooooooo! Snap!

So, pretty much, you're slamming the guy for being an entrepreneur and in some cases the business ventures aren't as successful. Of course, you don't know the deal he cut -- was he just licensing his name to Trump Steaks and Trump Mortgage while someone else ran the business? How much did he get paid? Did Trump even care if those ventures failed ultimately? We don't know. Further, even if he was intimately involved in them -- nobody thinks it's a bad thing to give a business venture a shot, try something new, and not succeed every single time.

This is just really weird - Oliver is pretty smart, but other than the tone of his delivery, hardly anything he is saying is actually a "slam" against Trump.

LOL - so then John Oliver says that no matter what, a candidate for President needs a "coherent set of policies." LOL. And, he apparently thinks that Rubio and Cruz have coherent sets of policies. I mean, that's amazing. Like Trump is the first candidate whose policies aren't "coherent?" So, he says "no matter what you think of Rubio and Cruz -- at least you basically know where they stand." But not Trump? What the fuck? Trump has been the most outspoken and direct of all the candidates. The whole reason Trump has the support he has is that Rubio and Cruz are using the same tired platitudes and campaign lines that we hear ever, single, election cycle. And, Oliver's examples were not a lack of coherency, but rather of flip-flopping. He says Trump was pro-choice but then pro-life. He says Trump was in favor of bringing in Syrian refugees, but then deporting them. Now, Trump's position is that illegal aliens should be deported, and that ones that come in legally should stay. That's a position a great many people hold. It's not "incoherent."

This is just a pathetic effort by John Oliver.

As icing on the cake, John Oliver caps off his presentation with the devastating proof that "The name Trump was not always his family's name!!" Oh, my effing God!!! Can't be!

Oh, wait.... pretty much everyone's name was not always his family's name - a few generations back, names usually change. And, it was very common for immigrants to the US at the turn of the 20th century to change their name to Anglicize the name.

His grandfather was named Drumpf! He was a German immigrant with a funny sounding name! Oh, my god! Oh my god! Oh my god! That would be hilarious if it were a non-European name that was anglicized! Oliver would be sure to poke fun at it! For sures!

So, Oliver makes the point that Trump is a name that has been turned into a "brand" which now has an impact on people -- making them think of wealth, buildings, casinos, success, etc. But, if we started calling him Drumpf, a name that doesn't have that "branding" we won't think the same about the name. Like, I guess, if you changed the name Coca-Cola to Fling Cola or something. That's hilarious! People think of Coke, and they think of the brand! People think of Fling Cola and they don't! Fling would have no real impact, whereas Coke has a huge impact! Same with Trump! The Drumpf name would have far less impact than Trump!

And, fuck you, Oliver. So fucking what? My direct male ancestor changed the family name too, that was my great grandfather. Does that make me a liar or something? I need to change my name back to what it was three generation's ago?

I still can't get over Oliver's rant there -- the crown jewel - the big punch line -- Trump's grandfather's name was Drumpf, and when they immigrated from Germany they anglicized it to Trump. That's the feather in the satirical cap.

Wow.

Going by your defence of of Trump, it seems he is an excellent presidential contender indeed. :cheer: Also, his popularity proves once again that the citizens who would vote for him are of sound judgement. All is alright with the US world.

No, I'm not a Trumper. The fact that Oliver's piece was horrible doesn't make Trump a great candidate.

I mean - come on -- Drumpf? Trump's grandfather changed their name to Drumpf, and that name sounds funny and hasn't achieved the same "brand" recognition that the name "Trump" has -- so -- let's run around calling him his "real" name of "Drumpf" because ... what? Trump is such an idiot that his real name is "Drumpf" and if his supporters knew that, they'd be like "how can we support someone named Drumpf?"

That's the huge money shot at the end of his piece?

And, oh, he's been an entrepreneur for 3 or 4 decades and he had both successful and unsuccessful ventures. Some of his businesses went through legal bankruptcy. And, he's self-funded his campaign, party by issuing a loan from himself to his campaign. He then collects only small donations from individual supporters, just like Bernie Sanders does, and he might end up paying back some of that loan with some of those donations!

Gotcha!!!!!!

Oliver is no Jon Stewart, I tell you that. I don't watch his show much, but there was another one of these things the other day about the "whiteness" of the Oscars. The piece was ludicrous. It was all, "Oh, my god! John Wayne played Genghis Khan and Yul Brynner played a Thai King -- 60 years ago -- , and Mickey Rooney played a comedic role 53 years ago in Breakfast at Tiffany's where he portrayed a stereotypical Chinese guy! Oh, and Iranians and Egyptians aren't played by black guys! Wow! How ridiculous!" And, can you believe it, Denzel Washington played the Manchurian Candidate! What an outrage!

We have a plan. Oliver revealed Trump's master plan. Send an army of lawyers to sue the world. Never settle! Get them on their knees and have them pay. We've been wronged.

Ooohh, someone's testy! :hehe:

I saw an analysis recently pointing out that if Trump had taken Daddy's money and just invested it all in the S&P500 index and then sat on the couch and did nothing for the rest of his life he'd have 10x (or thereabouts, can't remember the exact figure) as much wealth as he actually has. Wow, he so successful.. :fp:

Apart from the obvious lying that Trump engages in. :bored:
LOL - so then John Oliver says that no matter what, a candidate for President needs a "coherent set of policies." LOL. And, he apparently thinks that Rubio and Cruz have coherent sets of policies. I mean, that's amazing.
Please point to the minute:second mark where he says that. He says nothing of the sort. You really do love invoking tu quoque and red herring fallacies.
Like Trump is the first candidate whose policies aren't "coherent?" So, he says "no matter what you think of Rubio and Cruz -- at least you basically know where they stand." But not Trump? What the fuck? Trump has been the most outspoken and direct of all the candidates.

He's referring to both the habitual lying of Trump, and the fact that historically he's been more of a centrist republican, if not a democrat, ideology-wise. So his current waffle is more than likely just totally made up to garner support for his own megalomaniacal need for the presidency.
It was absolutely devastating, although, whether it will affect Trump voters is another question. But it's perfect as it has many elements of truth and then is tied together with devastating rhetoric. If you don't understand the role of rhetoric in debate, then you are missing a lot of what is going on in this piece.
