I don't see a problem with adults fucking anything robotic they like. As long as the robot doesn't have consciousness and the act doesn't drive the adult to commit crimes against real people.

There is not an intrinsic moral problem, but there could be a pragmatic nasty consequence, if the articles main point is correct, at least for some, i.e. that it would not satiate the urge, but stimulate it further until they needed to do it IRL. Whether that is going to happen or not is uncertain, but I don't regard it as unlikely...

And I don't know why you would think drugs can cure ailments in one part of the body and not another. That's strange thinking. And as I said, there's more to psychiatry than just drugs. Drugs are one part of a treatment plan, the same as they are with regular doctors.

Look whatever, if you believe that psychiatry can "cure" something in the same fashion as gastroenterology for example, feel free. I am not going to argue this. The article itself states:

I recognize difference between "cures" (something that cures) and "drugs" (something that does something). You are free not to recognize it for all I care. It makes no difference on the reality.

I admit that my view of psychiatry is influenced by several factors, all of them giving me negative view. Mr Szazs book "Psychiatry the science of lies" (https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/th ... ience-lies), having friends diagnosed and "treated", point of view of human rights, the so-called Big Pharma and well general lack of biomarkers like elsewhere in medical science. I admit I am biased. Still, "psychiatric cure" .. lets me see them. When I see them I will believe in them.

Depression can respond to drugs as of course can anxiety. The psychotic illnesses such as schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder are much harder to 'cure'. Often the treatment seems (to sufferers) not worth the side effects as the net effect is to dampen all mental activity.

It is worth pointing out that Szazs was always an outsider and a renegade. He made some excellent points about psychiatry, especially the psychiatric 'industry' but he also stated that mental illness is a myth. In that he was dead wrong, even if he couched it in terms of the diagnosis process.

Crucial for Szasz is that the attribution of disease then legitimizes in psychiatrists and other mental health professionals the power of social control. By labeling others as “sick”, we can lock them away, force drugs upon them, and separate them from “normal” people like us because there is something fundamentally wrong with them. And we can justify it all in the name of science. But really it is about social control.

This shit is no better than climate conspiracies.

He has a point. People with florid and unpredictable behaviour when 'mentally ill' lose their liberty frequently and the power the psychiatric system has over them is frequently abused to a greater or lesser extent in my experience, but that does not mean that their illnesses are not real.
