Well, I can tell you I was a very bad eater until about 13. My mother would sometimes stand over me with a wooden spoon because I just didn't want to eat. I can't remember why, I just didn't. Sometimes my father would feel sorry for me and secretly take my portion so my mother wouldn't yell at me, and other times I'd put the food in my mouth and spit it all out in my napkin when she wasn't looking.

Somehow, after about the age of 13, I started eating, and I mean a lot. Never gained weight as I was always active but had no problem with food. Maybe it's because there was more variety. It's about that time we moved to USA. I hated my mother's cooking. I remember first time I ever had toast. I loved it so much I ate a whole loaf of bread toasted. And I started to love beans and mashed potatoes. The instant ones from the box. I hated it when my mom made fresh mashed potatoes though. Pizza! Yes, Never had it until I came here.

Which makes me come to think. How much does she eat between meals? And might that be healthy snacks, or candy?

Funnily enough, I read a New Scientist article a while ago which discussed research into using fairly benign parasitic worms as a possible cure for some allergies and even asthma...

I think Maria Callas ingested a tapeworm in a pill on purpose to try to lose weight.

At least, that's the story...

Interestingly enough, my mom took me to the doctor, and it was found that I did have those worms in my stomach. Could be that contributing my lack of eating and always being thin? However, even after I got treatment, I still didn't like my mother's cooking and still didn't like to eat.

:hehe: :hehe: :hehe: probably!

I did love her bean stew. My dad and I both loved it. We'd saturate it with vinegar and eat fresh bread with it to the end, swiping the plate clean with the bread.

The vinegar sounds unusual...where did that come from? Usually vinegar or lemon are added to foods that are heavy in fat, to cut the richness.

Or, they are used to cover up the taste of spoiled foods... :?

I was wondering about the vinegar too ,but I decided to pick my battles :hehe:
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

My mom makes a three bean salad that's full of vinegar, and really yummy.

I adore bean salad...but bean stew with vinegar sounds odd.
