Of course, very reasonable indeed. Shoot Trump, though, for supporting a pipeline.
My point was that there are no such political issues in regard to the US and Canada, so that the only reasons to protest will be clear-cut environmental. In Europe, there are political issues, but the pipelines mainly involve relatively clean gas, not obtained via fracking or tar sands, so the environmental arguments are less robust.

The KXL pipeline is to be built by a Canadian company and take oil from the Canadian oil sands. The big objection is that taking oil from the oil sands emits more greenhouse gasses, like 17% more, than other kinds of drilling. However, the Habs are going to get that oil out anyway (as per a State Department report), and shipping the oil by rail and/or oil tanker is far worse than getting the oil from the sands and piping it.

Partial transcript of Trump’s remarks related to California water:
When I just left, 50 or 60 farmers in the back and they can’t get water and I say how tough is it, how bad is the drought? There is no drought. They turn the water out into the ocean.
...
We’re going to solve your water problem. You have a water problem that is so insane. It is so ridiculous. Where they’re taking the water and shoving it out to sea.
And I just met with a lot of the farmers, who are great people, and they’re saying we don’t even understand it, they don’t understand it, nobody understands it. And I’ve heard this from other friends of mine in California where they have farms up here and they don’t get water.
I said, oh, that’s too bad, is it a drought? “No, we have plenty of water” and I said well what’s wrong and they said well we shove it out to sea. And I said why? And nobody even knows why and the environmentalists don’t know why. Now they’re trying to protect a certain kind of three-inch fish. But...
No, no think of it. So nobody even knows why. And by the way the environmentalists don’t know why.
And you know I should say this, I’ve received many, many environmental rewards. You know, really. Rewards and awards. I have done really well environmentally and I’m all for it.
...
You know we want jobs. We have to bring jobs back. And if we can bring this part of the world water, that we have, that we have, but it’s true, I’ve gotten so many of the awards. And I’m proud of them. But and there are some great environmentalists and some great environmental people. And they really do...
You know my environmental standard is very simple and I’ve said it to everybody: I want clean air and I want clean water. That’s what I want. Clean air, clean water.
Very, very simple. So anyway so we’re going to be back up here. If I win, believe me, we’re going to start opening up the water so that you can have your farmers survive. So that your job market will get better.
No but there are some things that are inconceivable. That you know, they happen, and you wonder why. I’m asking everybody why, why, why, and nobody can really explain why they do this. But they do it. And your senators are for it but they’re total ineffective, unfortunately. They’re ineffective. You know, they’re for it. By the way, they’re for it for you, and then for the other side they’re for it for them. And then you wonder, I wonder why nothing happens.
But when you’re with the senators they want you. And then they go over to the environmental side and they want them.
And then you say, gee that’s strange. They’re for me. We want the water but the environmentalists just endorsed them. I wonder why. Well I’ll tell you how it works folks. So they play both sides of it. But they’re actually not for you. So we’ll see what happens.
But we’re gonna get it done and we’re gonna get it done quick. Don’t even think about it. That’s an easy one. Don’t even think about it.

New York (CNN)Hillary Clinton on Thursday blitzed presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump with a barrage of pointed and sarcastic attacks, casting him as dangerous with a petulant streak that could threaten U.S. national and global security.

Here are 34 of her most fiery charges:

1. "Donald Trump's ideas aren't just different -- they are dangerously incoherent. They're not even really ideas, just a series of bizarre rants, personal feuds and outright lies."
2. "He's not just unprepared -- he's temperamentally unfit to hold an office that requires knowledge, stability and immense responsibility."
3. "This is not someone who should ever have the nuclear codes because it's not hard to imagine Donald Trump leading us into a war just because somebody got under his very thin skin."
4. "We cannot put the safety of our children and grandchildren in Donald Trump's hands. We cannot let him roll the dice with America."
5. "He has no ideas on education. No ideas on innovation. He has lots of ideas about who to blame but no clue about what to do."
6. "This is a man who said that more countries should have nuclear weapons, including Saudi Arabia."
7. "This is someone who has threatened to abandon our allies in NATO -- the countries that work with us to root out terrorists abroad before they strike us at home."
8. "He believes we can treat the U.S. economy like one of his casinos and default on our debts to the rest of the world, which would cause an economic catastrophe far worse than anything we experienced in 2008."
9. "He has said that he would order our military to carry out torture and the murder of civilians who are related to suspected terrorists -- even though those are war crimes."
10. "He says he doesn't have to listen to our generals or ambassadors because he has -- quote -- 'a very good brain.' He also said, 'I know more about ISIS than the generals do, believe me.' You know what? I don't believe him."
11. "He says climate change is a hoax invented by the Chinese, and has the gall to say that prisoners of war like John McCain aren't heroes. (Pauses for boos) Exactly."
12. "He praises dictators like Vladimir Putin and picks fights with our friends -- including the British prime minister, the mayor of London, the German chancellor, the president of Mexico and the Pope."
13. "We are not a country that cowers behind walls. We lead with purpose and we prevail."
14. "He says he has foreign policy experience because he ran the Miss Universe pageant in Russia."
15. "If Donald gets his way they'll be celebrating in the Kremlin."
16. "And to top it off, he believes America is weak. An embarrassment. He called our military a disaster. He said we are -- quote -- a 'third-world country.' And he's been saying things like that for decades. These are the words of someone who doesn't understand America or the world."
17. "If you really believe America is weak -- with our military, our values, our capabilities that no other country comes close to matching -- then you don't know America. And you certainly don't deserve to lead it."
18. "What's Trump's (ISIS plan)? Well, he won't say. He is literally keeping it a secret. The secret, of course, is he has no idea how to stop ISIS."
19. "Through all his loose talk there's one constant theme: demonizing Muslims and playing right into the hands of ISIS."
20. "Donald Trump doesn't know the first thing about Iran or its nuclear program. Ask him -- it will become very clear very quickly."
21. "There's no risk of people losing their lives if you blow up a golf course deal. But it doesn't work like that in world affairs. Just like being interviewed on the same episode of '60 Minutes' as Putin was is not the same as actually dealing with Putin."
22. "We cannot put the lives of our young men and women in uniform in Donald Trump's hands."
23. "The stakes in global statecraft are infinitely higher and more complex than in the world of luxury hotels."
24. "We all know the tools Donald Trump brings to the table -- bragging, mocking, composing nasty tweets. I am willing to bet he is writing a few right now."
25. "I don't understand Donald's bizarre fascination with dictators and strongmen who have no love for America."
26. "He praised China for the Tiananmen Square massacre -- he said it showed strength. He said, 'You've got to give Kim Jong Un credit' for taking over North Korea -- something he did by murdering everyone he saw as a threat, including his own uncle, which Donald described gleefully, like he was recapping an action movie."
27. "I will leave it to the psychiatrists to explain his affection for tyrants."
28. "I just wonder how anyone could be so wrong about who America's real friends are. Because it matters. Because if you don't know exactly who you're dealing with, men like Putin will eat your lunch."
29. "Every president faces hard choices every day, with imperfect information and conflicting imperatives. ... Making the right call takes a cool head and respect for the facts. It takes a willingness to listen to other people's points of view with a truly open mind. It also takes humility -- knowing you don't know everything -- because if you're convinced you're always right, you'll never ask yourself the hard questions."
30. "Now imagine Donald Trump sitting in the Situation Room, making life-or-death decisions on behalf of the United States."
31. "Imagine him deciding whether to send your spouses or children into battle."
32. "Imagine if he had not just his Twitter account at his disposal when he's angry, but America's entire arsenal."
33. "Do we want him making those calls -- someone thin-skinned and quick to anger, who lashes out at the smallest criticism? Do we want his finger anywhere near the button?"
34. "Making Donald Trump our commander-in-chief would be a historic mistake."

Day after endorsement, Ryan slams Trump

Post by piscator » Fri Jun 03, 2016 6:52 pm

(CNN)Just a day after House Speaker Paul Ryan endorsed Donald Trump, he turned around and blasted the presumptive Republican nominee for attacking the judge overseeing the Trump University lawsuit.

While explaining his endorsement Friday on a Wisconsin radio station, Ryan -- unprompted -- ripped Trump's attacks on the "Mexican heritage" of U.S. District Court Judge Gonzalo Curiel.

"Look, the comment about the judge, just was out of left field for my mind," Ryan said on WISN in Milwaukee. "It's reasoning I don't relate to, I completely disagree with the thinking behind that."
And then Ryan issued a warning to Trump, that he will speak out when he feels he needs to.
"So he clearly says and does things I don't agree with and I've had to speak up on time to time when that has occurred and I'll continue to do that if that's necessary -- I hope it's not," Ryan said.

Ryan's comments came shortly after Hillary Clinton's campaign slammed Trump in a statement for targeting the U.S.-born judge's Hispanic descent.
"The fact that Donald Trump doesn't see Judge Curiel and his family as Americans makes him unfit to be president of this great nation, a nation of immigrants," Lorella Praeli, director of Latino outreach for the Clinton campaign, said in a statement.

Trump has controversially gone after Curiel, who is presiding over a class-action lawsuit against Trump's now-defunct training program in California, and suggested his "Mexican heritage" could prevent him from judging Trump fairly as a result of Trump's strident anti-immigration rhetoric.
He told The Wall Street Journal that "it's an inherent conflict of interest" for Curiel to sit on the case because Trump has proposed building a border wall between the United States and Mexico.
In the statement from the Clinton campaign, Praeli praised Curiel's experience and qualifications, saying, "Judge Curiel and his family epitomize the American Dream. His parents worked hard to give their U.S.-born children a better life. He and his brother became successful lawyers. His other brother served in Vietnam."
"In Trump's version of America, this Latino family isn't really America. But they are America. And Hillary Clinton will fight for ALL Americans," Praeli wrote.
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Trump on black supporter: 'Look at my African-American over

Post by piscator » Sat Jun 04, 2016 6:03 pm

Redding, California (CNN)Donald Trump sought to tout his support among African-Americans on Friday by pointing out a black man in the crowd and calling him "my African-American."

"Oh, look at my African-American over here. Look at him," Trump said. "Are you the greatest?"

The remark didn't generate a noticeable response from Trump's audience.
Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks told CNN Trump was "just referring to a supporter in the crowd. There's no ill will intended, obviously." She added Trump was "grateful for this person's support."
Hicks also rejected the suggestion that Trump's use of the possessive "my" to refer to the supporter was racist, saying such a charge was "ridiculous."

Gregory Cheadle, a Republican California congressional candidate, confirmed to CNN he was the supporter to whom Trump pointed. He told the Record Searchlight, a local newspaper, he was happy to be cited by Trump.
"That was me seriously. I got two autographs out of that," Cheadle told the newspaper. He added, "To give the black folk the time of the day, I was happy."...

Oh yeah...
