From the article I gather this woman endured mental suffering. I advocate her right to end her own suffering, just as I would advocate the right for a person who suffers physically to suicide.

I also philosophically accept a person's right to suicide, generally ... that's a tougher one to accept in reality, but there it is. :(
But do you advocate her right to implicate doctors that could save her life in her suicide? Sure, she has the right to kill herself but not to place others in an impossible moral dilemma - what about the stress and suffering it must have caused them. She was a selfish cunt if you ask me.

Is she more selfish than a person who suffers unbearable physical pain and wants to end it? Suffering is suffering.
The inquest into Miss Wooltorton’s death heard that she had drunk the poison up to nine times in the year before her death and each time doctors had flushed the toxins from her system.
She was suffering.

And what about the suffering of the doctors that had to stand and watch her die, knowing that simple treatment would have saved her life?

She wanted to end her life BUT she wanted people to see her do it - she could have taken poison anytime and NOT called an ambulance. She was mentally ill and as such her wishes were not being made on a rational basis and should have been disregarded. She was NOT seriously ill physically, she was unable to have children - that's it - not a condition renowned for its physical pain. Her pain was purely mental and should have been treated in the usual way, through therapy and anti-depressants - not through assisting her to die.

Not all Drs are filled with empathy XC
- Drs have to accept when JWs don't consent to a life-saving blood transfusion. What is the difference here (with regard to informed consent)?

Equally fucked up thinking in my view. Sadly, religious delusion is not yet recognised as mental illness.

She was selfish not for committing suicide, but for passing the burden of the decision unto others.

Unfortunately JWs extend that to making that choice on behalf of their children. That I do object to.

I don't think she was 'passing the burden' - she only made a decision to cause her own death and to be allowed to die. Any other person's personal moral view about it is their own issue. I happen to agree with what you said in your earlier post (my emphasis):
So I'm sorry for the doctors and I hope this might lead to a day where they can follow their morals, in one direction or the other without fear of legal harassment.

Fortunately Charlou- in the UK there is a well-trodden path where Paediatricians head straight to the Court to force appropriate treatment. Huzzah!

Which route should have been taken in the case of the attempted suicide also IMO.

She was in a lot of pain.
A lot.
I know a similar case.

The JW have changed thier minds on blood transfusions (as far as I know).

Saying that suffering =physical suffering and then dismissing depression etc as not really suffering ......i could get angry about that .

Please note Life is a movie you watch with your own eyes

to follow your interpretation of this you would be telling heroins addicts in withdrawl that their pain is real but dismiss the suffering of a coke addict as 'just in their mind'

I don't think people have a right to attempt suicide on any grounds . I think people have a right to suicide. Attempts :nono: It's not difficult

Implicating other people in any way without their prior consent is just rude .
