I read the whole thing, and generally enjoyed it. I think he sometimes got lost in the detail of his many, many side plots, but it still had an epic scope. I might actually watch the TV series...

Um Lak I think you are in the wrong thread.

I noticed you entirely missed Robin Hobbs entirely Jim. She is an incredible writer and world builder...the Fool is one of the most incredible characters anywhere in fiction. 9 books and you still won't know gender.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_HobbHer writing has mainly focused on the Realm of the Elderlings, a series of 16 books written in five parts. The series comprises four trilogies and one quadrilogy – the Farseer, the Liveship Traders, the Tawny Man, the Rain Wild, and the Fitz and the Fool – set in the same world.[1]

Never could finish Wheel of Time and was repetitive. Don't see it will translate well but then now totally spoiled as rewatching The Expanse as both the final book ( of 9 is out this coming week ) and the final season is also due in Dec.
THE best sci-fi series ever ....the detail is astonishing and mostly a Canadian production.
If you have not seen it it can be confusing off the hop ...but very true to the books and astonishing CG and cast. Little details keep partner and I fascinated and very curious as to how it gets wrapped up.
If you haven't expreienced Hobb, do the Fool 9 book set.
Also Bujold which while technically scifi has a top notch fantasy element

I mean who else has won four Hugos .
...matching Heinlein.

Re: Fantasy Series
The other elephant in the room is the King Killer Chronicles ....the damn thing is in production for a series that could easily rival Potter or GOT but the author has not completed the set.
The first 2 1/2 books are flat out wonderful.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Kingkiller_Chronicle
It will be wonderful visually and Kvothe a top notch character.

You managed to go that far? I read vol 1, and decided I didn't want to go any further.

OK watched the first two episodes, not bad at all. Moving much faster than the books.

Re: Fantasy Series
I watched the first episode, it was actually pretty good. I'm always conflicted when I see a movie/TV version of books I've really liked, because I have a mental picture which is often at odds with what is on the screen, and of course the movie version is frequently quite different in plot details. But it was worth watching...

Just watched the first two episodes. I'm enjoying it. Although, Ninaeve (spelling) has just reappeared, and I remember one of the reasons I hated the books - her.
