What should i buy? Xbox or what?
I miss gaming.. I lived with a guy who had an xbox so am familiar with that and loved it. I want to get something myself.. should I buy an xbox? For my part xbox has the advanatge that I am familiar with it and it's cheaper than a PS3..
Re: What should i buy? Xbox or what?
I bought a Playstation 3 recently and love it.
If you're only using it for online gaming its the better machine. Remember that XBOX is only a little bit cheaper than PS3 and you have to pay for the privilege of online gaming so by the time pay for that the prices of the 2 machines are the same. PS3 you plug in and you're on as soon as you enter your password.
Plus, I think, Playstation 3 has better exclusives (God of War, Killzone, Unchartered).
And its a blu-ray player also (unless you already have one?)
I prefer the PS3 to be honest.

I'm not interested in the blu ray part or gettimng into blu ray buying right now.
I know you have to pay for online gaming but it's only about £25 a year and the xbox is about £180

In Ireland it works out that you end up paying the same for both machines.

Personally I think PC versions of games are nearly always the best, though more and more are straight conversions these days. With a decent graphics card the graphics can't be beaten. I speak as someone who also has a PS3, which I hardly ever use now.

I'd suggest an Xbox 360 simply because if online is what you're looking for, there's more people around and it's just a little bit more straightforward to use than the PS3's version, IME
Also, I believe it has a slightly wider library.
Prepare yourself for the abusive pre-teens on Xbox multiplayer, though. SERIOUSLY.

You'll just have to weigh the pros and cons and decide yourself.
It was the exclusive games that done it for me.
Killzone 2 makes shit of any Halo game, Unchartered laughs at Gears of War, God of War FTW and the new Hard Rain is out which is supposed to have new levels of awesome.
Anyway. Opinions are subjective El. If your used to XBOX then you should probably get one. The fact I always had Playstation added to my final decision.

I didn't even think about this when considering. That would seriously annoy me.Nickel wrote: Prepare yourself for the abusive pre-teens on Xbox multiplayer, though. SERIOUSLY.
Not an advantage. You only ever play a few people at a time.Nickel wrote:I'd suggest an Xbox 360 simply because if online is what you're looking for, there's more people around
Twaddle. How is 'plug in and go' less straight forward than having to buy a CD and install it and then paying annually to keep it going?Nickel wrote:it's just a little bit more straightforward to use than the PS3's version, IME

Buying a new computer with graphics card is not an option btw Rum
Re: What should i buy? Xbox or what?
It depends on the kind of gaming you like IMO. Both have a good amount of titles to choose from, and most are cross platform games. They also have their exclusive titles, but I never could justify buying a game system for one game. Which controller do you find most user friendly? If none of this is a concern, I’d go PS3 by the simple fact that M$ has already received enough on my money. And there is that little reliability issue.
On a side note, depending on how antiquated your PC is, a good motherboard/processor combo, and video card upgrade could easily fall into the same price range as these systems. And everyone knows PC gamers are better then button masher gamers.

Re: What should i buy? Xbox or what?
There isnt much difference when it comes down to the games.
Can you reach your router wired? Which one is more of your friends on?
xbox cons:
xboxs online gaming = £30year approx
no built in wireless receiver - its biggest downside imo is that it does not have built in wireless. you have to fork out £50+ for a wireless dongle thingy unless you are close enough to your router to plug it straight in.
PS3 has built in wireless and online gaming is free
both have got good exclusive games
I have xbox360

With the 360, you also get a console that makes a constant loud grinding noise and a tendency to break if you have the audacity to try to play games on it. With the PS3, you get obnoxious install times and long loading screens, though (from what I've heard). I also prefer the 360 controller to the PS3 controller. It's way more ergonomic, it has nice shoulder triggers and doesn't have that useless sixaxis thing. I think the pros and cons weigh pretty evenly for both systems. If I were you, I would choose based on which exclusives you prefer. Or you could get a Wii. Carnival games and waggling!

on the note of reliability the new 'jasper' model 360s are fairly quiet and are supposed to be a lot more reliable.. I have a new model elite one as like many others my old xbox died.
wiis are allright for kids imo but not much else.

Re: What should i buy? Xbox or what?
My experience is with the 360 and I found the controllers for that easy to get to grips with and use (comping from a background of being a PC gamer).
The main game I like tbh is COD I played a LOT of that online and enjoyed it. I don't have much expoerience of other games.. and tbh the reason I want to get a console of some sort is for the up coming colonial marines game which is enough to make my mouth water. I am not near the router but suppose I could put the xbox downstairs and play it down there.. i hadn't thought too much about it tbh.
Oh I miss playing COD

Re: What should i buy? Xbox or what?
It's all about the games. The Xbox doesn't have any games that interest me, but the PS3 does. Therefore, I own a PS3. I bought my PS2 specifically so I could play Ico. Similarly, I just bought a PS3 specifically so I could play The Last Guardian.
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

Re: What should i buy? Xbox or what?
I ended up buying an Xbox 360 for the extra content of GTA4. I like the 360, It's not giving me any hassle and the noise level is not bad at all. My router is right next to the 360 so I only needed 0.5m cable to get it connected. I don't play much (read: no) multiplayer so I have only a silver account.
