Total War Shogun 2

Post by Audley Strange » Wed Jul 06, 2011 10:21 am

I bought this last week, I'm a huge fan of the first game and was incredibly excited. Then I realised I had to activate it through Steam, which is normally just annoying but this time the servers were down without any announcement of such. So it was a full 24 hours before I got to it on my comp.

I had the day to myself today and thought I'd finally try it out but my computer power pack decided to die on me and the good lady is off out with the bank cards.

I'm fucking livid.

Is it any good?

Explain this bought concept to me again :dono:
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

I have Medieval total war II kingdoms gold edition .. If I ever get around to working out how the view of the battles work and how to stop troops doing the most stupid things the AI can dream up I might actually try playing it again . Probably it will be saved until I have Retouched, titled , filed and databased the 6,ooo pictures on my drives, cleaned and redecorated my house , Privately submitted a thesis for a PHD and anything else I can think of that is less likely to have me screaming abuse at the monitor ..In fact I'd probably join Rat Skep before opening MedievaltotalwarIIkingdomsgoldedition. again

No , thinking about it ...I've got 9 fingers left I'd rather cut off another one

I have it, and completely resent it being based on the game servers, even if you play alone... that makes you vulnerable to just the kind of problem you mention.

I like it, but I find it fracking difficult, even on easy setting...

My own favorite was Medieval II (and the Kingdoms add ons), but I can't play it on my current machine, the pointer just won't display, and I haven't the slightest idea of how to correct that.
I also have Shogun I, which bothered me because managing contruction and troop formation was a real bother. Medieval I, which is my usual workhorse because I find it soothing, as well as Rome Total War and its Barbarian invations addon and that I use for a change of pace.

it means leaving some sort of compensation where you took the item for the guy who left it lying around to find.

Thanks for the feedback. I got it working and it's fucking great.

@Svartelf. You can play it offline in single player. The troop formation is much easier if one organises them prior to starting battle and once the battle has started, using pause and the various specific battle tactics for each group, rather than giving them single instructions and letting them go, like one would in an RTS.
