Hmm. Well since I love the Prince of Persia games, I suppose I really ought to try out Assassin's Creed. Not sure what I'm waiting for exactlyAudley Strange wrote:I've been getting into Assassin's Creed Brotherhood after being utterly blown away by Assassin's Creed 2. (Fuck new games btw. I got a deal in Gamestation 2 for £20. I'd rather wait a couple of months and get 4 games for the same price as one of them would be a couple of months before.) Anyway Assassin's Creed Brotherhood hits all my buttons so far except the one that surprisingly matters least in a game where you are an assassin and that's the fighting. I wish someone had said a long time ago.... "Hey Audley you like Tomb Raider and Tenchu, chick this bitch out."
Waiting for Arkham City and gears 3, but I'll wait a few weeks. Rather a rich noob than a broke epeener.

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

Well the Vizier, once I learned his routine, turned out to be a pussy, and went down kind of easy.
Anybody play the PS3 PoP games? Are the worthwhile? How do they compare to the PS2 games? Tired retreads, or fresh takes

I started playing 2 dlc add-ons for Assassins Creed 2. 'Battle for Forli' and 'Bonfire of the vanities'. It is fun but I really need to get used to not having a crossbow anymore and the double blade being the better weapon. You also get a few more missions robbing Templar treasure chambers.

I love action/adventure platformer games. I do like RPGs, but often I find them tedious. Fallout, for instance, was very cool. But you had this enormous environment to wander around in, but not much in the way of interaction with the environment. It was just endless walking, encounter enemies, kill, walk, encounter enemies, kill, walk, rinse, repeat.PordFrefect wrote:PoP games bore me

This game is
Not for everyone, certainly not for the casual gamer. This game doesn't have difficulty settings or hints. Everything is designed to make you die - repeatedly. And die you shall. Dying is a part of the game. And every death you learn from. Every death drives you on.
There's lots to explore in this game though exploring brings extra risks. Do you go down to the basement and face what's down there or do you decide to pass it and trudge onwards forsaking any goodies that may lie waiting for you? Tough decisions all 'round.

I've been bursting for this for a while. I recall a time, prior to Microsoft introducing the X-Box (which may or may not be related), that games were often tough, unforgiving or downright motherfuckerish. After sailing through a dozen games in the last month with hardly a death, I've been looking forward to something so merciless. I really like the interesting take on multiplayer too, it's perfect for me, random strangers who can help or hinder me and vice versa, without having to listen to the fuckers parrot 1337 memes at me.
We really do need better dialogue and AI for online players, at the moment the NPC's are outshining them in almost every game I play online.

The multi-player is cool. And they took the clever idea of having set message combinations. Like 'try ****' > 'fire' etc... so people can't just write whatever they choose and write bollox.
I started the game again today after I messed up. I could've persued but there was a sword I wanted but I lost the means to after I killed the guy who sells arrows (for a sword, lol). It took me just 3 hours to do what took 7:30 hours yesterday, with more power and level-ups this time. The bosses got completely owned too. Once you know how to beat them they will go down. It is a fair game. It's not about getting lucky hits in or anything like that. The punishment is always fair. It's because you messed up or weren't paying attention you die.
I got the sword I wanted and it fucking rules. It's made my life a bit easier. Especially as there's a bit of grinding in it and I'd rather enemies got ground to dust quickly.
I got a bit more explorative today. The place is huge with hidden treasures everywhere, both the literal and the figurative. The enemies range from the familiar to the surreal. I know where I have to go and I have went there but I got stomped rather quickly. I think a bit more arming to the teeth and levelling up and magic assist is needed before I go up there again.
Back to the grind.

One of my XBL mates said to keep an eye out for some shortcuts and hidden areas with phenomonal loot. I'll be getting this within the next week so we should all share hints and tips.

Yeah there's short cuts through the world everywhere. The way its designed is brilliant. The whole thing is interconnect. I started a whole thread on it on Ratskep, there's not as much buzz about the game over here though.

I wish they'd make more games for PC instead of everything going for consoles.

Re: What are you playing now?
Okay so I got this yesterday, which is the reason I'm only now posting about it. After about three hours I managed to figure how to beat the asylum boss (I went a Sorceror and it took me ages to realise I could quick swap between sword and staff). Since then I've had a whale of a time going practically nowhere, investigating every nook and cranny, getting graped by firebomb throwing zombies and some big armoured dude who kept chasing me around until I lured him off an edge of a cliff. I'm not sure he's dead though and am not looking forward to proving that one way or another. However not one of my deaths has seemed cheap and although it's "tough" it's certain a great deal of fun. Especially with the Dread Lady Strange howling with laughter at me and saying such things like "OOOOh watch out Sauron here comes Aud... oh no forget it, hahahaha".
Great great fun.
Great great fun.

Re: What are you playing now?
Bought Rage for PC. It might be OK for consoles but I have made a mistake with this one. I normally never buy a PC game until I have read a review, which I didn't, relying on ID's reputation instead.
Full of graphics bugs, very demanding of hardware and poor gameplay on single player anyway. Blechh!

Re: What are you playing now?
I knew you'd love it. It's an almost certain GOTY. The sorceror seems like a bit of a hard character to start off on. Wanderer is the most balanced for starting off.Audley Strange wrote:Okay so I got this yesterday, [snip awesomeness]
I'm 30 hours into it now and the place just keeps opening up. I've had to battle some really tough bosses and entered some really deadly areas. I don't know why there isn't a death counter. I must've died a couple of hundred times by now. It's pretty amusing you spent so long on the Asylum Demon though. I beat him on my first go. Then again, I had a scimitar and not a sorceror staff.
The awesome thing about the game is the classes are interchangable. As you go through the game you'll find all types of different armour belonging to the different classes. Simply by wearing there armour and using the assigned weapon you effectively become that class as long as you've got stats to match it.
That big armoured dude should be dead. Did you get souls after he died? The larger enemies don't come back, thank fuck.
There's an awesome sword which is of great help to you but I fear the sorceror is too puny to use it. You would have to boost your strength to 16 to wield it effectively in one hand though you can hold it in both forsaking your shield.
