Right, this game has caught a lot of flak, but after reading an alternative review (focuses on some very different areas) I'm giving it a go.

I'm a big fan of Obsidian and RPGs in general, I have Alpha Protocol and I've finished my first playthrough. It is alright but nothing great. Too many bad design decisions for that... hopefully this isn't the start of the decline of Obsidian. If Fallout: New Vegas is received well then they'll probably go on to make good RPGs again. If it doesn't... I can't see how they will survive.

Well, the guy said the main problem was polish and expectations. People saw it and expected a massive shooter and action extravaganza, not realising it was supposed to be a stealth RPG. Everything else were minor glitches - mainly graphical - and simply not being as pretty as most new games. Alpha Protocol was actually quite enjoyable and was a lot better than a lot of the scores and reviews were making it out to be. The part he was rather angry about was that nobody seemed to focus on the fact that the game actually had a decent choice/consequence system in place, to the point where the way entire missions were played out might change depending on the things you said to one guy four hours earlier.
Ever since Kotor 2, my expectations of Obsidian have been pretty much null. Fallout: Vegas looks interesting though.

I think you ought to try Mask of the Betrayer. That is a great game. KOTOR 2 is good too; it has a poor ending but that shouldn't put you off the rest of the game. Granted, the start is a little slow... but it gets better.
As for AP, the 'bad' design decisions I was talking about were the minigames, cameras with green spotlights on them, an on-screen objective marker so you don't even have to open up the map, and poor enemy AI. The characters were interesting, as were some of the missions, but they were poorly implemented. It is still worth playing for choices & consequences alone, though; there's lots of different routes through the game.
