Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell.

Has anyone else here read this novel? It's a kind of alternative historical novel, set in a version of Victorian England where magic is commonplace. And it's bloody brilliant!

Well, I just found out that a TV adaptation has been made by the BBC and should be aired this year. I haz an excite! :hyper:

A chap recommended it to me when it came out. I read about 30 pages and got bored and stopped but that's probably just me.

You should try again. It takes a while to get used to the style of her writing - bit once you do, it grips you. At least, it did me.

Read it and listened to it when it came out - fantastic book.

I bet we won't get the production over here though. :sulk:

Discovered that I had $10 more dollars in gift cards from Barnes & Noble, so I bought this Saturday. Plan on starting it Sunday.

Only 160 pages in and finding it quite good. Hate that I have to go back to work Monday. Too bad the need to work so we can pay for such trifles as food, clothing, and shelter has to cut into my reading time. :lay:

Haven't read it myself, but I recall Neal Stephenson saying he liked it. (I hope I'm not misrepresenting him.) Also Mrs. Orph liked it a lot. I'm going to add it to my precariously tall stack of books to read.

Yeah its the sort of thing he might have written instead of The Baroque Cycle. If he was into English myths rather than the history of computing. You should read it, you'd get a kick out of it, I think.
