Guys, what kind of books would you have?

Post by Tero » Thu Apr 18, 2013 2:16 am

We know you all read car and gun and "men's" magazines. Civil War even.

But if you actually read books, like..not for work stuff, what kind of books would you read? Would you display them: I've read all of these!!

What do you mean "if you actually read books"? Surely everyone here reads books? I've fucking tonnes of the things, and have even read some of them. I like literature, but also like cheesy adventure and rank escapism. So Wilbur Smith / Robert Ludlum type stuff, and fantasy. But lately I've been into rural American literature set in past times. I really am hooked on the stuff.

What, like Steinbeck and such? Or Louis l'Amour?
Out of the people that ever were, almost all of them are dead.
There are way more dead people, and you're all gonna die
and then you're gonna be dead for way longer than you're alive.
Like that's mostly what you're ever gonna be.
You're just dead people that didn't die yet.

Yep, Steinbeck, and John Grisham did a book in a similar vein to Grapes of Wrath. Currently reading 13 moons by the author of Cold Mountain (which I will read as well), which is set around the formation of "The Nation" for the native Indians.

Also picked up two more titles recently from the charity shop. "The Story of Edgar Sawtelle" and "American Rust". I have a real fascination with rural life in the US.

I have a large bookcase and it is full. I ditched all my Buddhism ones three or four years ago (there were about 30) and gave into the inevitable. The rest are a mixture of novels, science fiction, travel books, a few of non-fictions and cook books. Also a large number of maps and books about walks in the Lake District and elsewhere.

I would like two of them, one in each hand, not too big, enough to cup in each hand, and I would take turns burying my nose in each.
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

I may have one. Can I add it to yours? I have a WWI book I got to read about Russians and Finns. The czar lost the army and we got communism.
