Are you gong to see the musical?

It's supposedly really good.
And the kid who plays the little brother ("I can't put my arms down! Come on, guys!" ) is an amazing tap-dancer.
Out of the people that ever were, almost all of them are dead.
There are way more dead people, and you're all gonna die
and then you're gonna be dead for way longer than you're alive.
Like that's mostly what you're ever gonna be.
You're just dead people that didn't die yet.

spins blindly in the dark
so close to annihilation.

He's the narrator (and writer of...) the movie A Christmas Story
That explains why I didn't know who it was.

I was forced to sit through it once, lousy excuse for a movie.

If that's an example of his humour, I have no interest in anything else he's done.

OK, I just listened to my first one, "Stilton Cheese"... it definitely had some amusing moments describing being in a stodgy British men's club, all wood panelling and port, and being served Stilton from a gargantuan wheel.

I would start with Ryder Ryder Nails the Cleveland Street Kid, and Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss, and then get into some of the radio shows. Remember, when you get into the radio shows, he did a daily radio show for 22 years on WOR, so not every moment is going to be a barn-burner, floor rolling laugh fest, which is true of anyone who does such shows on a daily basis.

But, what he does is take mundane things and weave them into an interesting tale -- common events become modern day folklore. I think if you let it grow on you, you'll enjoy much of what he does.

I would go see it, but I think it was recently in town and I did not have any time to go. SWMBO'd is not a fan, but she's not American, so she doesn't get the references or the humor.

Jean Shepherd's voice still narrates the Carousel of Progress at Walt Disney World.
“When I was in college, I took a terrorism class. ... The thing that was interesting in the class was every time the professor said ‘Al Qaeda’ his shoulders went up, But you know, it is that you don’t say ‘America’ with an intensity, you don’t say ‘England’ with the intensity. You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “... But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.” - Ilhan Omar
